In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play) at Costa Mesa Playhouse

Costa Mesa Playhouse presents Sarah Ruhl’s “In the Next Room, or The Vibrator Play,” September 14 through October 6. A provocative, funny, touching and effervescent comedy set in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of electricity. In a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating "hysteria" in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. The only woman whose problem is not helped by the doctor is his own wife, who longs to connect with him but not electrically. Nominated for three 2010 Tony Awards. This show contains sexual situations and adult themes. Directed by Kathy Paladino
