The term “Metro splain” is when people who never use L.A. public transit try to tell you how bad they think it is.
Take it from someone who has relied on it for over 20 years, it’s … fine. And it’s only getting better!
In roughly 55 minutes, Tamra Brown embodies nine unmistakably L.A. characters with varying perspectives on our city’s least-respected mode of transportation. Using character monologues, slide presentations, and even dance, the show explores the history of L.A. Metro and challenges the tired notion that “you have to have a car in L.A.” It will leave you inspired to take one specific step toward the clean, walkable, transit-friendly city we deserve.
BACKGROUND: Tamra was born legally blind so driving has never been an option for her. As a writer, comedian, and avid Metro user, she’s wanted to create this show for a very long time to help normalize taking public transit. Since Metro is having a moment right now in the wake of the massively popular “Ride the D” campaign, it feels like the perfect time for angelenos to reconsider why the F*CK they won’t just take the bus.
CREDITS: Tamra currently appears in the dark comedy Self Reliance on Hulu. You can also check out Tamra’s comedy on her TikTok and Instagram channels (both @heytamra), where many of her characters and impressions have gone viral. Her followers particularly enjoy the content series Wife Wives, which is a parody of what reality shows would have been like if they existed in the 1950s. Tamra has had sketches featured on Funny or Die and WhoHaha, and has danced on ABC’s The Gong Show, Dance Battle America, and the Angie Tribeca Binge-a-thon on TBS.
