The following are the JACCC's upcomign events.

The JACCC is proud to host the 2009 SushiMasters Finals Competition presented by the California Rice Commission. Regional winners from Washington, DC, Maryland, Florida, and California will travel to Los Angeles to compete for this title. The competition will be held in conjunction with the JACCC Food & Sake Festival featuring cuisine from local restaurants, food purveyors and a sushi pavilion as well as a selection of premium sakes and Kirin beer.

AJA XXII
Opening Reception: Friday, September 25, 2009, 7pm

The spotlight in the George J. Doizaki Gallery turns to the contemporary in the Fall, featuring some of the most innovative Asian American artists in Los Angeles with the JACCC’s annual contemporary art showcase AJA XXII.

Over its 22 years, the carefully curated AJA series has come to be known as one of the most exciting showcases of emerging artists, and this year is no exception. Featuring the work of six contemporary artists including Ichiro Irie, Tomo Isoyama, Gil Kuno, Joe Suzuki, Sayon Syprasoeuth and Sylvia Tan, their unique individual pieces will blend together to make a collective statement announcing to the Los Angeles art scene that these artists have arrived.

The exhibit features diverse media including painting, installation pieces, film and pop culture.

Kabuki: Backstage to Hanamichi
A Behind the Scenes Look at the Color, Magic and Drama of Kabuki

The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center and The Japan Foundation are pleased to present Backstage to Hanamichi-A Behind the Scenes Look at the Color, Magic and Drama of Kabuki with lead actors Kyozo Nakamura and Matanosuke Nakamura of the world-renowned Shochiku Company.

The lecture/performance includes two kabuki classics: Sagi Musume (The Heron Maiden) and Shakkyo (Lion Dance), contrasting the lyric style of the onnagata (actor specializing in female roles) with that of the dynamic, acrobatic style represented in the heroic Lion Dance.

This program is presented in conjunction with the 100th Anniversary Celebration of The Japan America Society of Southern California.
