End of the semester, endless fun activities!
Spring has finally sprung! After months of trying to deal with the cold, the rain, and the overall cloudy gloom (and questioning if I was even in Southern California at all), I walked out of my dorm this morning and was met with a beautiful, sunny day that had already reached 80 degrees by 10:30am. It was truly a sight for sore eyes. This is the Los Angeles weather I know and love!
I'm not the only one enjoying the warm weather. Campus today was the busiest that I've seen it in a while. People were sprawled out on the lawns with their friends and nearly every outdoor table at the student center was taken, although I was lucky enough to snatch one in the shade. Needless to say, even though there are only two weeks left of the semester (one week of classes and then finals week, crazy!!) student life is still going strong and is as bustling and lively as ever!
The end of the semester is also always a particularly exciting and busy time for students involved in one particular area: the performing arts. My school has seemingly a million different theatre and music related student organizations, and I feel like you can go see at least 3 (if not more) different ISPs-independent student productions-every weekend in the last month or so leading up to the end of the semester. I wish I could see them all, but there just simply isn't enough time! I've tried to catch as many as I can, and they have all completely blown me away and exceeded my expectations. I love student produced productions because everyone involved is so passionate about the piece and it really comes through in the performance.
Part of the reason I haven't been able to catch as many shows as I would like is because this week, I've been running back and forth between tech weeks for two different shows. You heard me right: I've been doing tech week for two different shows at the same time which, as I'm sure you can imagine, has been super stressful and chaotic. That said, it's also been such a fun experience. I'm performing in one and helping with tech for the other. I haven't been involved with the tech side of a production since high school, and helping build sets and get the space ready for performances has reminded me how much I love it and how amazing it feels to literally create a piece of theatre with a group of incredibly talented people.
So, as you can see, even though the entire student population is about to hunker down and brace themselves for finals, student life hasn't slowed down at all in these last couple weeks of the semester. It honestly doesn't feel like the school year is coming to an end because so much is still going on. There is so much to do on campus and I want to soak as much of it up as possible!
