AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) was proud to announce the statuesque Julie Newmar as their emcee for Out of the Closet's “Cheap Chic” Fashion Show and Auction on Saturday night, May 2nd at their Out of the Closet (www.OutoftheCloset.org) in Hollywood at 6210 Sunset Blvd. This 21-and-over fundraising event, orchestrated by Designer Louis Natividad, was built around a timely theme-“Tough Times, Great Solutions!”-and will benefit AHF, the largest AIDS group in the US, which currently provides more than 15,000 free HIV and STD tests annually in California via its community-based testing programs.  The fashion show, that began at 9:00 PM featured models decked out in trendy and affordable wares straight off the racks of “Out of the Closet,” year-round purveyor of “cheap chic” and great solutions in tough times!

Attendees had a chance to bid for the models' outfits after the show including jeans signed and worn that night by Ms. Newmar. A woman of great genetic stock, Newmar's father was a one-time Chicago Bears football player and her mother a star of the 1920 Follies.  Beauty, brains and a fantastic sense of humor-Julie Newmar is perhaps best known world wide for her role as the sultry Cat-woman on the hit series "Batman" or on stage for her original roles of Stupefyin Jones in Lil Abner and Vera in Silk Stockings, not to mention her Tony Award winning performance as Katrin Sveg in The Marriage-Go-Round.  Making the transition to TV, Julie appeared in Rod Serling's science fiction series the "Twilight Zone" in 1963, playing Miss Devlin (devil). As physical perfection, Julie was ideal to play Rhoda the Robot in "My Living Doll." Becoming an entrepreneur in LA real-estate, Julie also developed "Nudemar" panty-hose. She also has both a Lily & Rose named after her and in 2009, she was inducted into the Smithsonian Institute as one of their Legendary Lady of Stage and Screen.

“Out of the Closet,” the world's most fabulous thrift store, is a chain of stores in Northern and Southern California, and in South Florida, owned and operated by AIDS Healthcare Foundation. As the nation's largest retail fundraising vehicle for HIV/AIDS medical care, the “Out of the Closet” Thrift Store chain generates 30,000 donations and nearly 1 million shoppers a year.

In addition to retail operations, seven of the stores offer free, confidential HIV testing by certified counselors through AHF's innovative prevention and testing program, the largest such program in
California.  Since 1990, the “Out of the Closet” Thrift Stores have helped raise funds for AHF's HIV/AIDS medical care, testing and prevention programs.  Ninety-six cents of every dollar earned goes to the care and treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is the nation's largest non-profit HIV/AIDS organization. AHF currently provides medical care and/or services to more than 100,000 individuals in 21 countries worldwide in the US, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean and Asia.
