The following is the mid-month happenings from the Lawrence Arts Center.

Lawrence Art Auction April 18
More than 250 works of art await your bids at the 29th AnnuAl Lawrence Art Auction Saturday, April 18th at the Lawrence Arts Center.  Local and nationally-known artists have donated art glass, paintings, ceramics and more to this fundraiser benefiting the Lawrence Arts Center's Exhibition program.  Many items are part of a special Preview Exhibition currently showing in the Arts Center Galleries.

Tickets are $25 in advance ($30 at the door) and can be purchased at the Lawrence Arts Center, by calling 785-843-2787, or ordered online.  Doors open at 6:00pm and the Live Auction begins at 7:30pm.

Arlene Goldbard to Speak at LAC April 21.
goldbardNoted author and arts organizer Arlene Goldbard will deliver a lecture on "Cultural Recovery" Tuesday, April 21st at 7pm in the Lawrence Arts Center Gallery.

Goldbard will address cultural action in a democracy, as well community service programs employing artists and cultural organizations as part of national recovery.  Download her discussion paper on Cultural Recovery here. This event, sponsored by the Lawrence Art Percolator, is free and open to the public.

940 Dance's New Works Concert April 24-25

Fresh from presenting a work in concert at the Performatica Festival in Puebla, Mexico, the professional dance company at the Lawrence Arts Center will present their annual New Works Concert Friday and Saturday, April 24th and 25th at 7:30pm.  New pieces by artistic director Susan Rieger and company members Vance Baldwin, Non Edwards, and Bobbie Foudree will be featured.

Tickets are $13 for adults and $7.50 for students and seniors and can be purchased at the Arts Center or by calling 843-2787.
Summer Youth Theatre Auditions
April 26-28!

Caesar Students who are completing 4th-12th grades this year are invited to audition on Sunday, April 26th to be a part of the Lawrence Arts Center's Summer Youth Theatre program. All who enroll in Summer Youth Theatre will be cast; however, auditions are used for assigning roles.  There are also four shows this summer for K-3rd graders, but these shows do not require auditions.

Annie (4th-7th grade; performs June 18-20)
Robin Hood (4th-7th grade; performs July 23-25)
Participants should call 843-2787 to set up an audition time between 2-3:30pm for Annie and between 3:30-5pm for Robin Hood.  Prepared auditions are NOT required, but Annie participants will be asked to sing.  Callbacks for Annie are set for 4-7pm on Tuesday, April 28th.  Callbacks for Robin Hood are set for 6-9pm on Tuesday, April 28th.

Julius Caesar (8th-12th grade; performs June 25-28)
Rent (8th-12th grade; performs July 30-August 2)
Participants should call 843-2787 to sign up for auditions for one or both shows during hour-long time slots at 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, or 5pm.   Please prepare a two-minute or less monologue.  Those auditioning for Rent should also prepare 16 bars of a Broadway song to sing.  Rent callbacks are set for 4-8pm on Monday, April 27th; Julius Caesar callbacks are set for 6:30-9:30pm that same evening.

There is no online enrollment for SYT.  Pick up a packet at the Lawrence Arts Center during business hours.
Annie is limited to 70 cast members, so enroll early!
Julius Caesar is being cast gender blind, meaning we could have a female Caesar and/or a male Calpurnia.
