Compensation: $70k-$75k/year, competitive benefits package including health insurance, dental insurance, voluntary supplemental benefits, 401(k), vacation, sick time, parental leave and paid holidays.

Summary:

Trinity Repertory Company seeks a highly motivated and skilled technical director. The technical director is a key part of the Trinity Repertory Company production staff. This individual ensures the successful interpretation, engineering, rigging, realization, and safety of all scenic elements while maintaining a safe working environment for all. The technical director will serve as a safety officer and facilities manager within the department and will work to ensure a safe working environment in both scene shop and theater spaces. This position also alternates coverage at technical rehearsals with the stage supervisor; this requires some weekend and evening availability. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Coordinates work schedules with all production departments

Evaluates budget, mechanical, and logistic feasibility

Generates working drawings for the scene shop

Distributes technical ground plans and sections to technical departments and stage management

Collaborates with other production departments on rigging plot and provides specifications on rigging methods to Stage Supervisor as well as location of scenic pick points

Works closely with Scenic Artist to analyze, plan and schedule shared work

Maintains clear and consistent communication with other production departments to ensure successful integration of technical elements of shows

Prices and purchases tools and construction materials

Provides samples and photos as needed to designers and directors

Assists designers with knowledge about use and capability of theater’s physical plant

Maintains ongoing communication with designers to support and execute designs that maintain a high artistic standard and keeps designs within resources of time, labor, materials, and budget

Oversees organization of warehouse with props supervisor, costume shop director, and scenic artist

Trains run crews in proper methods of operating, moving, storing and maintaining scenic elements

Provides input to upper management regarding future capital projects and improvements

Brings a sense of collaboration with collective incentive and drive for the team working on each production

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversee, manage, and lead scenery build, install, and strikes with 5 full-time direct reports of various skill levels and occasional over-hire technicians. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; employee performance appraisal and development; and maintaining a safe and respectful work environment.

Education and/or Experience:

Five or more years professional theater or event employment in related positions; interest and/or involvement in an arts related enterprise; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



Other Skills/Knowledge:

Strong project management skills that demonstrate the ability to deliver complex projects on time, on budget, and in a safe and efficient way

Must possess written and verbal communication skills and be able to collaborate with a wide variety of artists, technicians and administrators with diverse backgrounds

Must have complete proficiency and demonstrable experience using AutoCAD. Working knowledge of Vectorworks is a plus

Possess a working knowledge of MIG welding, plasma cutting, and oxy/acetylene welding, with ability to train staff on same

Proficient knowledge of scenic construction techniques and materials

Skilled in stage rigging and techniques

Ability to handle situations involving electrical, scenic and mechanical risks

Knowledge of proper drapery sewing techniques is a plus

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other cloud-based software
