Musical Theatre Instructor and Vocal Coach - Parallel 45 Theatre

Parallel 45 Theatre produces cutting-edge interpretations of plays & musicals, giving familiar stories new life – and fresh relevance – for our northwest Michigan audience. Every summer, Parallel 45 produces a festival of plays in the relaxed setting of the Civic Center Park in Traverse City. Artists from across the country and around the world convene on P45’s new, state-of-the-art stage to perform adventurous, boundary-pushing musicals, plays, and devised works for all ages--rotating daily.



The Youthquake Company is Parallel 45’s new advanced training and outdoor theatre performance program designed for middle and high school student actors. Throughout classes and rehearsals, students will enjoy the unique opportunity to apply their craft to real-world practice through the creation and performance of a brand new musical. Mornings are spent in training sessions honing voice, movement, and performance skills with afternoons rehearsing and creating a brand-new musical based on a Hans Christian Andersen tale featuring the music of Broadway and pop favorites. This experience culminates in public performances of their creation, presented as part of Parallel 45’s 2021 season.



P45 is currently seeking applicants for the position of MUSICAL THEATRE INSTRUCTOR AND VOCAL COACH for the summer 2021 season. This position will work closely with the Youthquake Company Director, Apprentice Choreographer, and P45 Education Director. This role entails training students in performance skills and musical theatre vocal technique, collaborating with the creative team in the creation of a new piece featuring familiar songs in the Broadway and pop canons, and providing music direction in rehearsals. The position of MUSIC DIRECTOR may be offered at an additional rate, if proficient in piano accompaniment.



COMPENSATION is up to $3,000 with company HOUSING and TRAVEL reimbursement included. All training and rehearsal sessions are performed outdoors and socially-distanced, with students and staff wearing masks while singing. Company housing is provided in a podded environment with quarantining and testing procedures in place. Contract DATES are June 28-August 1, 2021.
