GULFSHORE PLAYHOUSE SEEKS STAGE SUPERVISOR
Gulfshore Playhouse, a mission-driven, professional theatre company located in Naples, Florida, is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented and organized individual to serve as Stage Supervisor.
Gulfshore Playhouse offers a diverse season of straight plays and musicals ranging from venerated classics and Broadway hits to contemporary works and world premieres. Gulfshore Playhouse is passionately committed to producing high-quality, professional theatre which exceeds the expectations of the cultured residents and visitors of Naples, FL, many of whom are regular theatre patrons in New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
Gulfshore Playhouse will be opening the Baker Theatre and Education Center, a state-of-the-art facility, featuring a 350-seat mainstage with a Broadway-sized stage, a 125-seat flexible space, rehearsal studios, classrooms, and rental space in October of 2024. In 2022, Gulfshore Playhouse became nationally recognized as the 77th member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT). This is an extraordinarily exciting time for the Gulfshore Playhouse, which is experiencing unprecedented growth in a collaborative and creative community.
Status: Full-time, year-round position, Overtime Exempt
The Stage Supervisor will work closely with Stage Management and the Scenic Department to create and maintain both the onstage and backstage scenic movements. They will be the lead of the run crew of each production. They will organize and choreograph all moving scenery and fly rail movements. Additionally, they will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the set and technical equipment of each production. The Stage Supervisor will oversee the use of, and maintain all rigging systems. They will also provide any necessary training to seasonal staff as well as create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
The ideal individual will have a strong drive to provide high-quality work, the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work as part of the team. Some weekend and evening hours are required including attendance at performances, special events, and/or meetings that may happen outside normal scheduled hours.
Skills:
Proficiency in both hand and power tools
Proficiency in stage carpentry
Proficiency in stage rigging and systems
Basic knowledge of automation systems
Knowledge in lighting and sound equipment
Basic knowledge of scenic paints and decoration
Proficiency in Google Suite
Proficiency in drafting software (Vectorworks or AutoCAD preferred)
Creative problem-solving
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
Ability to manage time and productivity effectively
Ability to multitask and achieve tight deadlines
Duties:
Supervise and train Stagehands on safe and appropriate operation of all scenic moves during rehearsals and performances.
Supervise and train Stagehands in proper rigging, carpentry, and stage operation techniques.
Foster and lead crews to working in a safe, respectful and collaborative environment.
Complete all assigned scenic moves in a safe, accurate, and timely manner during rehearsals and performances.
Attend and participate in all rehearsals, notes, crew calls, and performances as assigned.
Assist in coordinating the shifting and storing all scenic and properties elements.
With Stagehands, maintain the physical quality and safe operation of all scenic elements for each production.
Complete daily/weekly inspections of all rigging and motorized scenic elements.
Maintain a stock and inventory of hardware, tools, cleaning supplies, and rigging supplies for theatre space.
Run all backstage crew besides wardrobe crew
Choreograph scenic shifts
Assist SMPA in props tracking and set up
Create and maintain any backstage track paperwork
Perform pre and post show checks of the scenery, props and perform any necessary repairs
Communicate with Stage Management about any needs of backstage crew
Assist in load in, lighting hang/focus, and strikes.
Oversee operations of the stage rigging system
Maintain stage areas and stage rigging systems
Assist in build and construction of scenery when available.
Read all reports and act on any notes
Provide assistance in other departments as needed.
Adhere to all safety protocols at all times
Provide support for special events
Any other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
5 years of experience in the field
Work experience with professional theatre and fly systems
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
Ability to climb, ladders, mobile lifts, catwalks and work at heights
Ability to work overhead with heavy equipment
Ability to work in tight, enclosed spaces including ones in the air
Ability to work in dark spaces
Ability to stand for long periods of time depending on assignment
Ability to work in and with proper personal protective equipment
Ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools

Salary range: $800-$960/wk DOE Overtime Exempt
