THIS JOB IS IN TORONTO, CANADA.
Show Info:
THE RUINS OF ZINDOR is an immersive, interactive play-meets-escape-room set in a fantastical, sci-fi world. Audiences will move the action forward by completing hidden tasks within the space and triggering the next piece of the plot. The set will function as both a stage and something akin to an escape room, ideally with a mix of interactive elements that are both automated and remotely triggered by a stage manager. We are searching for a design team ideally with some experience in production, but more importantly in creating non-traditional immersive experiences and building practical elements. The creative team hails from the Burning Man, film/television, theatre, rave, and immersive events worlds, and are looking for folks who bring a diverse range of backgrounds and experience to the table. This production has been commissioned by the Luminato Festival and will be a part of the mid-October 2021 festival.
Role info:
The set designer will work closely with the creative team to develop both the “set” itself, and more importantly, the objects and installations that fill the room for the audience to interact with. Experience in building practical elements required. Because of the sci-fi aesthetic, this role will work closely with the lighting designer to build practical objects that respond either by automation or by remote trigger as the action of the play moves forward, some built into the set itself or to be held and manipulated by the audience. The set designer’s ideas and input will heavily influence what these practical elements ultimately become, influencing both the script and overall production design.
