Scenic Carpenter - Aspen Music Festival and School

Description

The Scenic Carpenter works under the supervision of the Aspen Opera Theatre & VocalARTS (AOTVA) Production Manager to assist in the building, installation, and running of theatrical scenery. The AOTVA program is under the co-artistic direction of Renée Fleming and Patrick Summers at the Aspen Music Festival & School (AMFS). The upcoming season will utilize the AMFS orchestras, the 2,050 seat Benedict Music Tent, and Historic Wheeler Opera House throughout an encompassing 8-week summer season. This season’s mainstage productions will be Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel and Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro.



Responsibilities

Contructs scenery as assigned according to shop drawings while utilizing space, time, materials and tools in the most efficient manner.

Participate in the load-in, running, and strike of AOTVA productions.

Maintain and organize shop equipment and tools,

Adhere to the highest safety standards for the job site, the operation of tools and the operation of scenic pieces and theatrical equipment.



Requirements

Currently pursuing or graduated with a BA/BFA in Technical Theater with a concentration in scenic construction or technical direction or equivalent professional experience.

Previous experience in the scenic construction support of theatrical productions.

A strong working knowledge welding and rigging is considered advantageous but not required.

Candidates must have sensitivity to the needs of staff, designers, guest artists, faculty, and student performers and a proven ability to work well with others.

Candidates must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and materials or, of greater weights in tandem with additional crew member assistance and be comfortable and confident climbing stairs and ladders. Additionally, candidates must have a valid driver’s license. A DMV check will be conducted for the candidate hired.



Dates

July 1, 2024-August 21, 2024



Compensation

$14.42/hour plus housing provided by AMFS (valued at a minimum of $4.45/hour depending on location.) Overtime $21.63/hour.

Benefits include AMFS season pass and paid sick time.

Hiring Timeline
