Nick Eibler & Lavender Public present Queer To Tell: Austin.
Queer To Tell: A Pride Month Storytelling Series debuted this past Pride Month in New York City at the Til Death coffee trailer, VERS BK clothing store, and Astoria Bookshop. Now, the show is hitting the road to showcase more stories and Queer businesses across the country, starting in Austin, TX.
Queer To Tell was created as a way to share the wide breadth of LGBTQIA+ experience in a non-conventional, intimate, and performative way, cultivate intergenerational community, and highlight the wide variety of Queer-owned businesses and spaces thriving in New York City today. Ideally, we would love this show to feature storytellers from all throughout the community and from all walks of life; not just performers and artists but lawyers, designers, entrepreneurs, activists, baristas, bartenders, caretakers, teachers, Uber drivers, and any other Queer person who has a story to tell.
DATE, LOCATION, AND THEME:
Wednedsay, August 9th, 7 -9 PM @ Reverie Bookshop/Captain Quack's. Theme: TALES OF PRIDE - Stories about the time you felt immense pride for being Queer, in your community, in someone you admire, someone you mentored, overcoming shame, etc.
FOR THE SHOW:
In the show, you will perform a story ranging from 7 - 10 minutes (3 - 5 pages) in accordance with the theme for the evening. These stories DO NOT have to be memorized, but they should be worked on. There will be a music stand for you to put pages or an iPad on and read from should you need it. The week prior to your show, we will workshop your story to get the first time sharing jitters out and make sure you feel ready to go come showtime. If you’re unfamiliar with the form of storytelling or need some inspiration for topics and structure, I highly recommend watching some videos from The Moth’s Mainstage playlist. The Moth is one of the leaders in teaching and presenting the artform of storytelling and is a great resource. Also, check out our Instagram for photos and videos from our previous shows.
In the interest of transparency, this is not a paid opportunity. If that isn't for you, I totally understand. The show will be ticketed, but all profits will go back into the event (paying for space, photographer, etc.). In addition, due to time and the desire to create as diverse a lineup as possible, not everyone who submits will be selected. However, we do intend to continue this show past Pride Week and establish it as a regular event. If you aren’t selected or able to participate this time around, please keep in touch because we would love to have you take part in the future.

If interested, please fill out this Google Form: https://forms.gle/vevBzpB7ckvrn9Pa9
If you have multiple stories for each theme, feel free to submit multiple forms. We hope to have the show lineup complete by the week of July 24th, so please fill out the form ASAP.
