Production Specialist - Coppell Arts Center

Basic Function

Under the general direction of the City of Coppell’s leadership and the Production Supervisors at the Coppell Arts Center, the Production Specialist will assist the Production Supervisors in coordinating the audio, video, lighting, and technical equipment for all assigned productions, events, and exhibitions. In addition to coordination, this position will also be responsible for the setup, facilitation, and strike of all production equipment and elements required to execute events and exhibitions in the Arts Center that are advertised to the public throughout the DFW area and the State of Texas. The Production Specialist will also direct Production Coordinators and third-party labor and act as Manager on Duty (MOD) during assigned events. Knowledge of technical operations, methods, materials, practices, and procedures involved in theater technical productions is required. Demonstrated experience in system operation and support for all theater audio, video, lighting, rigging, and dimming systems. The position must have the ability to work collaboratively with Arts Center staff, resident company artists, touring production staff, and guest artists in a diverse environment. The position will also participate in other duties as assigned by their supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

-Coordinates technical requirements for all assigned events scheduled at the Arts Center

-Directs technical labor during assigned events

-Responsible for the setup and operation of sound equipment (microphone, speakers, etc.), lighting systems, and video systems for rehearsals, productions, and exhibitions

-Responsible for setting up and striking staging requirements (Orchestra shell, platforms, Marley, etc.)

-Effectively communicate with Front of House staff to ensure smooth execution of events

-Assist with setting up and striking tables and chairs and support equipment for special events and meetings.

-Participates in training in the use of lighting and audio/video control equipment.

-Participates in the evaluation and update of policies and procedures

-Frequently working events and rehearsals on nights and weekends as a board operator and/or production liaison.

-Performs routine maintenance and repair of theatre and shop equipment. Notifies appropriate person/department of major repair needs.

-Maintains the inventory of theatre equipment and prepares reports as necessary.

-Maintain clean and organized workspaces

-Performs other related duties as requested, required, or assigned

Minimum Requirements

Skills/Abilities

The Production Specialist must be knowledgeable in theater production departments (audio, lighting, rigging, staging, video, automation) and how to institute the best industry safety standards in each one. This employee must possess the ability to effectively plan and prioritize tasks. Essential job functions require the ability to lift up to 50lbs, operate a personal computer with a variety of software applications, perform repetitious office tasks on a routine basis, and prepare reports, correspondence and other documentation. The ability to effectively communicate with City officials, employees and members of the general public using the English language verbally and in writing is essential. Ability to work in a potential hazardous environment around high voltage, heights, and overhead rigging.

Knowledge

Knowledge of technical operations, methods, materials, practices, and procedures involved in technical theater productions. Knowledge of safety measures and hazards related to theater productions. Demonstrated experience in system operation and support of all theater audio, video, lighting, rigging, and dimming control systems. Ability to work collaboratively with Arts Center staff, touring production teams and guest artists, Resident Company artists, and rental clients. Knowledge and experience in the safe operation of power tools.

Experience

Production Specialist must have a High School Diploma or GED . Experience in technical theater at a professional or university theater, trade shows, churches, theme parks, etc. is required. The Production Specialist must have a valid Texas Driver’s license because essential job functions may require travel to various sites within and outside the City.

Working Conditions

The Production Specialist performs approximately 50% of essential job duties in the municipal office environment, with the remaining 50% consisting of evening and weekend shifts during Center events. This role requires occasional travel to various locations within and outside the City.

Reporting Relationship

The Production Specialist reports directly to the Production Supervisors.
Salary: $22.49 Hourly
