Summary:
The Production Manager oversees five-six fully produced musicals on the Mainstage and two-four Children’s Theatre productions annually. They report directly to the Producing Director and work closely with the Executive Artistic Director, Technical Director, and Company Management. With assistance from the Associate Production Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for the efficient management of all Artistic and Technical needs for each production, hiring and supervising up to 65 seasonal staff members at a time.
The Production Manager needs to have incredibly strong communication and interpersonal skills. This individual works closely with department supervisors to ensure deadlines and expectations are met. When challenges arise, they lead department supervisors in problem solving and know what issues need to be escalated.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Hiring of seasonal crew for the Main Stage and hiring Children’s Theatre Staff in conjunction with the Education Director. This includes ad placement, conducting interviews, contacting references, and extending official offers
• Create contracts and work with HR/Finance/Company Management to properly onboard new staff members
• Attending conferences such as USITT, SETC, and local job fairs
• Manage the Artistic and Technical needs for each production
• Primary contact for all designers and creative team members. Create design deadlines and ensure design deadlines are met
• Schedule and lead Production meetings
• Ensure prompt payment of invoices and assist in ordering any necessary materials for departments
• Assist Producing Director on managing the budget.
• Quickly and efficiently address staff performance issues and involve HR as needed
• Coordinate overhires for scenic builds and changeovers
• Work with the Education Director to manage Artistic and Technical needs for Children’s Theatre
• Work with Producing Director and Producing Associate to arrange/coordinate any needs for NYC rehearsals
• Work with Rentals Manager to coordinate the receiving and storage of scenery, props and costumes
• Work with Human Resources to create evacuation policies, and lead any necessary evacuation drills.
• Working with Technical Director and Department Heads to ensure all equipment is inspected and in good working order for each season.

• Excellent organizational skills with an ability to think proactively, prioritize work, and meet deadlines
• A proactive approach to problem solving and strong decision making skills
• Effective project management skills
• Effective communication skills (writing, speaking, and listening)
• Knowledge of office procedures, safety procedures, and business operations
• Desire to continuously learn and research changing guidance related to health and safety matters
• Solid experience with office management systems and MS Office, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Suite
• Experience exercising discretion and confidentiality with sensitive company information
