Signature Theatre, one of New York's leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking a PRODUCTION CARPENTER at The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street for our upcoming production of MY BROKEN LANGUAGE, written and directed by Quiara Algería Hudes.



About Signature

Founded in 1991, Signature Theatre celebrates playwrights and gives them an artistic home, producing six to eight productions annually. In 2005 Signature began its groundbreaking Signature Ticket Initiative, providing affordable tickets to all of its productions. In 2012, Signature opened The Pershing Square Signature Center, the Frank Gehry-designed 75,000 square foot Center featuring three theatres, two rehearsal studios, a central, public lobby with a café and bookstore, as well as administrative offices.

Position Summary

The Production Carpenter is a part-time hourly position.

Production Dates:

• Load-in: Tue, 9/13/22 – Thu, 10/6/22

• Tech: Fri, 10/7/22 – Sun, 10/16/22

• 1st Preview: Tue, 10/18/22

• Opening Night: Sun, 11/6/22



Responsibilities

• Assist in overseeing correct installation and assembly of all scenic elements in a timely manner

• Adhere to load-in schedule and coordinate with other departments to do so

• Supervise and lead a team of overhire carpenters

• Maintain a safe working environment



Desired Experience

• 2-3 years of professional carpentry experience in a theatrical setting

• Knowledge of theatrical carpentry tools, construction methods, rigging practices, and welding

• Ability to read and interpret shop and build drawings

• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work independently and experience in supervising a team of carpenters

• Possess a positive attitude and is self-motivated





Compensation

The position is non-exempt. Hourly rate of pay is $33/hour. Any hours worked beyond 40 hours in a work week is compensated at one and a half times the hourly rate.
