CLASSIC STAGE COMPANY (CSC) in New York, NY seeks a Producing Artistic Director to lead the organization and bring current and future supporters and fans along on an exciting journey to challenge the traditional perception of classic work by reimagining great stories across the world’s repertoire that illuminate our common humanity. The Producing Artistic Director will possess a flair for thoughtful artistic curation combined with entrepreneurial zeal and a talent to execute plans that celebrate artistic significance, inclusion, and accessibility. As the top organizational leader reporting directly to CSC’s Board of Directors, the Producing Artistic Director will infuse a sense of shared purpose throughout the organization, working in a highly collaborative way with the company’s Chief Operating Officer/General Manager and Board leadership to empower current staff and expand infrastructure. The Producing Artistic Director will develop strong plans for revenue enhancement and more sharply define the unique role CSC serves in New York City’s robust theatrical community. The Producing Artistic Director will be CSC’s principal steward of Mission and Vision and will work tirelessly to create a culture that attracts the most talented artists and the resources necessary to produce work at an increasingly impressive level of artistic achievement. Through creativity, force of will, and an unwavering dedication to CSC’s core values, this charismatic leader will bring experience and insight into artist cultivation, partnership alignment, engaging new audiences, and strategic approaches to fund development and earned revenue growth. The Producing Artistic Director serves as the public face of CSC and as such will share a passion for the company’s advancing commitment to EDIA in all stakeholder engagement and network building, guiding Board and staff participation in a process of growth and reimagination.

The salary starts at $175,000 and includes a full benefit package. CSC hopes to make a hiring decision in the first part of 2022.

Organizational Profile

In 1967, director Christopher Martin founded CSC Repertory in a 100-seat theater at Rutgers Presbyterian Church on West 73rd Street. Following short stints in small spaces, CSC grew to the point where it needed a permanent home. In 1973, the theater moved to its present premises on 13th Street, an intimate space that was formerly an East Village carriage house. In the 50 years since, CSC has become a leading Off-Broadway theater that is a home for new and established artists, as well as audiences seeking epic stories intimately told. Productions have been cited by all major Off-Broadway theater awards including the Obie, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Drama League, and the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Body of Work.
