On-Call General Carpenter - Skirball Cultural Center

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a General Carpenter to perform a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the preparation, construction, installation, and repair of preexisting or new educational or interactive components.



This is an on-call position with a variable, seasonal schedule with pay of $25 per hour. The schedule ranges from 4 to 30 hours per week and is dependent on departmental need and employee availability.



Responsibilities



-Assist in repairing, building, and revitalizing new or existing components in the Noah’s Ark exhibition and outdoor education areas that are beyond the scope and responsibilities of the Museum and Operations departments.

-Safe handling of tools as well as any preexisting exhibition or educational components.

-Collaborate with the Manager of Noah’s Ark and Family Programs in the design and construction of new educational components, as well as source appropriate materials and create a workflow with detailed project timelines and estimates.

-Track expenses and collaborate with the Noah’s Ark and Family Programs Coordinator to maintain a working budget.



Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes



-Strong working knowledge of and skills in carpentry and construction, including fabrication and production techniques

-Experience working with wood and machine shop tools

-Ability to create freestanding objects and pieces that are structurally safe for children and people of all ages and meet applicable code and fire safety regulations

-Ability to work in a variety of locations, both indoors and out

-Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds

-Ability to work well in both a team environment and independently

-Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and complete projects in a timely manner

-Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

-Knowledge of painting and staining techniques are a plus
