The North Texas Performing Arts is announcing its search for a leader of its adult theatre program who will bring this live theatre organization to the forefront of the DFW metroplex's theatre community. NTPA’s adult theatre program includes the NTPA Repertory Theatre, NTPA Community Theatre, Page-2-Stage, and its adult performing arts educational offerings.
The award-winning North Texas Performing Arts Repertory Theatre Company is a non-equity theatre within the non-profit NTPA organization with a mission to deliver professional-quality theatrical entertainment that inspires audiences and empowers artists from Broadway to the ‘Burbs.
NTPA enjoys a legacy that began in Plano in 1991 and is now one of the largest and most prolific theatre companies in the country with extensive youth and adult programs and locations in Plano, Frisco, Fairview, Dallas, and Southlake.
THE ROLE OF NTPA REPERTORY THEATRE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR:
The NTPA Repertory Theatre Artistic Director is responsible to provide leadership, ensure program quality and value, planning and execution across all aspects of operating this growing adult theatre program. The role will report to the Chief Executive Officer of the North Texas Performing Arts, and is provided advice, counsel and support from a dedicated Repertory Theatre Board of Directors. It is the intent that this role have creative freedom to manage day to day activities as appropriate to accomplish the overall objectives for NTPA's adult offerings.
This role offices in Plano and is a hybrid in-office and remote role. The majority of the productions take place at the Willow Bend Center of the Arts housed in the Shops at Willow Bend in Plano.
The Artistic Director will be responsible for the following:
1, Work with the CEO, Board and with input from patrons, actors and artists, and employing survey methods and other information gathering, create and execute a twelve-month rolling programming calendar laying out shows, classes, workshops and other activities. The programming and/or adaptation of programming should adhere to needs, strengths, and goals of individuals and casts, and fulfill revenue generation expectations.
2. Negotiate production rights with license holders.
3. Maintain and grow relationship-based approach with donors, supporters and the community.
4. Fulfill the role of “Director” for 3-4 Repertory productions each year.
5. Assign Directors for many of the shows to be produced, and oversee and coordinate to assure quality, and value content and experience; observe rehearsals, events, and activities as necessary to ensure quality delivery.
6. Work with marketing personnel, business, development, and operations provide event planning, promotional and fundraising activities.
7. Administrative duties, including, but not limited to show planning and business forecasts, program research, director assignment and contracting, social media marketing support, and patron/donor outreach.
8. Identify and research new programs for the Repertory Theatre including outreach opportunities within DFW and the surrounding areas, Summer Stock program, adult training/education, and other offerings.
9. Serve as the primary contact for information and communications for Repertory Theatre shows. Ensure timely and accurate content is provided to marketing and publicized for all auditions and productions.
10. Work with NTPA Development to assist in fundraising efforts on behalf of Repertory Theatre including establishment of corporate partnerships, development of fundraising vehicles, and increasing membership.
11. Other activities as necessary to promote the theatre’s success and growth.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
This multi-faceted role will require the following professional skills:
A self-starter with an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving;
A willingness to initiate and innovate with theatre arts within the policies of the North Texas Performing Arts; A team player willing to take on tasks necessary to achieve the organization’s objectives;
Ability to create a popular, progressive and innovative performance environment for our actors, directors and patrons. Knowledge of the theatre arts, experience in casting and production of on-stage shows;
Ability to work with a theatre Board of Directors and parent/patron volunteers; Knowledge of live Audio/Visual (AV) technology or a willingness to learn; Strong written and verbal communication skills to work with volunteers, actors, and patrons.
QUALIFICATIONS:
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
* Degree in the performing arts, preferably in musical theatre;
* Minimum five years of stage, production management, or directing experience.
* Business development and promotional experience a plus.
* Understanding and experience with the DFW Theatre Community.
COMPENSATION:
The candidate selected for this role will be compensated between $38K-$52K plus realistic incremental 10% bonus potential upon attainment of financial and other annual objectives. It is anticipated that this is a full-time role requiring at least 40 hours per week.
