The Department of Theatre at Michigan State University seeks to hire an Assistant Professor-Fixed Term, academic year, in the field of Musical Theatre Voice and Acting, position to begin August 2021. The ideal candidate is an inspiring educator who is passionate about new musical development, music theatre training, vocal coaching, and incorporating inclusive pedagogies in the classroom.
Principal duties and responsibilities include instruction of individual vocal lessons for musical theatre performance and musical theatre acting and co-coordination of ĭmáGen, a new musical development program in collaboration with the Wharton Center for the Performing Arts. The position also entails artistic duties in the Department of Theatre’s production season and Summer Circle Theatre program (responsibilities vary based upon candidate’s expertise).

Requirements
• MFA in Theatre or related field
• Or the equivalent professional experience in theatre; by appointment start date
• At least 5 years of professional experience in acting, musical theatre, vocal performance, musical direction, direction, or closely related field; recent experience preferred
• Evidence of commitment to antiracist and inclusive pedagogy in theatrical practice
Preferences (not required)
• College-level teaching experience; at least 3 years teaching experience at undergraduate and/or graduate level preferred
• A broad knowledge of acting and vocal techniques
• Ability to sight-read music
• Ability to play piano proficiently
• Training in a Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) vocal technique (E.g., Estill Voice Technique, Somatic Voicework, etc.)
