Laguna Playhouse is one of the oldest operating non-profit theaters on the West Coast with its roots dating back over 100 years. Close to the film and television studios of the Los Angeles area, Laguna Playhouse has attracted a wide roster of notable names in the entertainment field to perform on its stage such as Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford, Julie Harris, Hal Linden, Rita Rudner, Ed Asner, and Bette Davis (who shared her talents in 1960 for a one-night fundraising benefit). In 1966 Laguna Playhouse moved into its current home, The Laguna Playhouse Moulton Theatre on Laguna Canyon Road a short distance from the nearby beach due to a transformative financial gift from benefactor Nellie Gail Moulton. From this 399-seat theater, Laguna Playhouse currently offers a season of self-produced productions and presented musicals, plays, and special events from independent producers. Education has been an important part of Laguna Playhouse’s operations for some time, and classes and outreach to local students is a values-based component of all Laguna Playhouse artistic initiatives.
