IAMA Theatre Company is seeking a Managing Director.

IAMA members have been featured in numerous critically acclaimed TV shows and films as well as in a vast array of theatre and live performances all over the country, including Off-Broadway and Broadway. IAMA has been dedicated to developing new plays and musicals by emerging and established playwrights since 2007.



MANAGING DIRECTOR POSITION SUMMARY

In 2019, IAMA formalized its Board of Directors and has grown exponentially, quadrupling its operating budget to $800,000+ annually. IAMA seeks a dynamic leader during this next critical phase of strategic growth. Working closely with the Board and reporting directly to the Artistic Director, the Managing Director oversees all administrative operations, fundraising, and marketing efforts for the company. This is a Los Angeles-based position with office space in Atwater Village and the option for work-from-home

hours. Local travel for meetings, and availability on some nights/weekends will be required.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Board Management:

• Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors

• Provide consistent communication, updates, and reports to Board members

• Oversee Board giving, invoicing, and receipting

• Facilitate scheduling and prepare materials for Board meetings

• Attend all Board meetings and utilize Board Committees to drive planning and implement strategies quickly and effectively

• Meet regularly with the Board Chair, Board President, and Executive Committee



Finance and People Management:

• In collaboration with the Board and staff leadership, create and manage the annual operating budget

• Oversee company-wide payroll administration

• Manage the overall financial operations of the organization, including accounting, audits, tax filings, insurance, etc.

• Lead, coach, and retain the company's administrative staff, developing new staffing goals and long-term needs

• Manage contracts for consultants, vendors, and other areas as needed

• Ensure organized files and the written documentation of policies and procedures



Development, Marketing, and Communications:

• Create and execute a comprehensive development and marketing plan with measurable goals and outcomes, consistent with IAMA’s mission and fiscal needs

• Deepen and refine all aspects of external communications—from web presence to institutional nonprofit messaging—with the goal of creating a stronger brand

• Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major and annual donors through personal outreach to both individuals and institutional funders

• Assist with the development, planning, and execution of special events to advance marketing and fundraising for shows and programs

• Create persuasive fundraising appeals, sponsorship proposals, and marketing materials

• Utilize the Patron Manager CRM database to track accurate audience and donor account information, ticketing, contributions, and other relevant information

• Ensure proper gift accounting, receipting, and acknowledgement of contributions

• Supervise Marketing Associate/Social Media Manager and Grant Writer and create a plan for the expansion of revenue-generating staff



The Managing Director may be assigned additional responsibilities and duties at the direction of the Artistic Director and/or Board of Directors. Every employee adheres to IAMA’s anti-racist policies and

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong business acumen and knowledge of nonprofit management preferred

• 4+ years arts administration, financial management, and/or fundraising experience required, or equivalent experience in a related field

• Excellent communicator with an outgoing personality to manage all Board and donor relationships

• Passionate about theatre and the performing arts

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong organizational and time management skills

• Proficiency in major office software applications, database management experience a plus

• Strong work ethic, high energy, and sense of humor a plus



COMPENSATION

$50,000 annually. Full-time, salaried, exempt from overtime. Additional benefits are not currently offered. As a leadership position focused on financial growth and strategic planning, this position has room for growth and eventual addition of a comprehensive benefits package.
