Job Title: Manager, Institutional Giving

Classification: Full Time

Reports to: Director of Development

Salary: $60-70k dependent upon experience; 100% employer-paid health insurance and paid vacation

Location: Flexible; if remote, travel to NYC will be required from time to time and covered by a travel allowance. If NYC-based, we would expect hybrid office-home working.



New Music USA seeks a Manager of Institutional Giving to direct and broaden its contributed revenue from foundations, trusts, corporations, and government sources. This is an exciting role that works collaboratively with the Development Director, CEO, program staff, and Board to generate much-needed resources for our community of music creators and organizations.



Who we are: New Music USA supports the sounds of tomorrow by nurturing the creation, performance, and enjoyment of new music for adventurous listeners in the US and beyond. We empower and connect US-based music makers, organizations, and audiences by providing funding through our Grants; fostering new connections through our programs; and deepening knowledge through our online magazine, NewMusicBox, and our work as an advocate for the field. New Music USA works in collaboration with the music community in response to evolving needs and to amplify the diverse voices of music creators. We envision a thriving and equitable ecosystem for new music throughout the United States.



The Position: New Music USA’s development program is led by the Director of Development. The team works closely with the President and CEO and works together with board, staff, artists, audiences, and donors – all the stakeholders who make New Music USA an organization that is transforming the public’s relationship with new music. We aim to bring all those people together around the vitality of new music and its relationship to all the arts, life, and society. The development team secures the fuel to realize these goals.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Institutional Giving Management – 85%

• Organize and implement development project plans and maintain an accurate calendar for proposals, reports due, and grant payment requests to ensure that the grant writing and grant reporting schedules are up-to-date and on track to meet deadlines

• Draft funding solicitations, letters of intent, proposals, applications, and reports; assemble supporting materials as required

• Manage the reporting process for all general operating and program-specific funds

• Work with Finance Director and Development Director to develop funding budgets and financial reports

• Submit and maintain all required government registration and compliance materials

• Coordinate check-ins and other forms of cultivation with portfolio of funders

• In partnership with our finance team, provide grant payment schedules to inform cash flow projections, ensuring timely submission of invoices and monitoring of incoming payments

• Monitor appropriate funder credits

• Leverage senior leadership effectively and efficiently in managing foundation relationships

• Ensure exceptional ongoing communication with and stewardship of assigned foundation supporters

• Research and identify new institutional donor prospects to secure new funds

• Develop a deep understanding of the current status of leading programs and projects, working closely with the program staff to ensure that outcomes/reporting data are gathered in an organized and timely manner

• Other responsibilities as assigned



Development Operations - 15%:

• Participate in the creation of development board meeting materials.

• Lead and implement best practices and efficiencies in Salesforce, including processing donations, preparing acknowledgment letters and other correspondence, maintaining donor records and pipelines, and building reports to track trends and opportunities.

• Monitor the acknowledgment and recognition process to ensure that donors are properly and appropriately acknowledged.

• Work with the Director of Development to complete internal reports on fundraising progress and accomplishments.

• Participate in job-related trainings as assigned.



REQUIREMENTS:

• The Manager of Institutional Giving should be highly motivated and hard-working and should demonstrate superb communication and analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, a growth mindset, and a willingness to take on large and small tasks alike

• A minimum of five years as a development professional, including experience of writing applications for and reporting to governmental bodies, trusts, and foundations

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Self-motivator and creative problem-solver

• Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, with the ability to develop and manage detailed work plans

• An ability to synthesize and consolidate materials from multiple teams into an effective, cohesive product

• The ability to use good judgment to prioritize tasks while responding to quick turn-around requests under tight deadlines

• The ability to draft compelling briefs, memos, grant proposals, presentation materials, and other materials for a range of audiences

• Interest in learning and developing in the role

• A desire to work collaboratively

• A passion for the arts and interest in new music

• Strategic and nuanced thinking

• Knowledge of database management

• Bachelor’s degree or higher.

• Knowledge of Salesforce or other customer relationship management systems

• Fluency with social media, especially on a strategic level



Compensation: New Music USA is offering a competitive salary for a non-profit organization of our size ($60-$70k) and a generous benefits package, including 100 percent employer-paid health insurance, dental insurance, paid vacation, and sick leave.
