OVERVIEW:

Ford’s Theatre Society is hiring a Manager of Arts Education to join its team. The position is full-time and based in Washington, DC.



Manager of Arts Education oversees content development, partnerships, programming, logistics, outreach, and evaluation for on-site and online arts- and public speaking-related education programs at Ford’s Theatre, in accordance with priorities developed by the Director of Education and in alignment with the institutional long-range plan.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Overseeing implementation and continued development of public speaking and theatre arts programs, including but not limited to online and print resources, expansion of the program to serve adult learners, teachers, schools, and districts with multiple tiers of engagement.

• Curriculum development

• Workshop creation and facilitation

• Cultivating and managing relationships with teachers and schools to support the long-term growth of arts and public speaking programs.

• Stay up to date with latest approaches as they relate to arts-integrated and theatre practices by participating in learning opportunities such as conferences, in-person and online convenings and workshops.

• Guiding and managing all aspects of the local and national public speaking programs including development, implementation, and quality assurance of:

• Curriculum development, program structures, and policies

• Registering and preparing participating teachers

• Teacher fellows’ and student delegates’ visits Ford’s Theatre

• Teaching artists residencies – both online and in-person

• Resources that disseminate the Ford’s Approach to Teaching Oratory

• Overseeing logistics of residency visits and culminating performances

• Recruiting, contracting, training and supervising teaching artists for all arts education programs, including student- and adult-focused public speaking, theatre and arts-integrated programs and education team programs and events related to theatrical productions.

• Managing all elements of public speaking events (virtual and in-person), including appropriate coordination with production, development, visitor services and communications departments.

• Overseeing theatre exposure programs, including outreach and administration of teacher preview workshops and student matinees, as well as creation of online resources and programs to support student and teacher engagement with mainstage productions.

• Building and maintaining relationships with local and national professional associations and other appropriate partner organizations. Represent Ford’s Theatre at conferences including local and regional convenings.

• Managing arts learning program budgets, including income, expenditures, and any related grant reporting, in coordination with the Director of Education and Interpretation and the finance department

• Overseeing income and expense tracking for all Education Department programs.

• Collaborating with the Director of Education and the development team to write, edit and report on funding specific to arts and oratory learning, as needed.

• Support the execution of departmental and institutional activities and initiatives. Other duties, as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field



KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Substantial teaching experience required with an emphasis on teaching artistry (need not be in a traditional classroom)

• Experience creating arts-integrated lesson plans and supporting curriculum development

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills

• Commitment to creating youth and teacher development programs and learning opportunities of the highest caliber.

• Fluency with Microsoft Office and comfort with Tessitura or Customer Relationship Management system

• Familiarity with educational theory, school environments and an interest in history

• Strong commitment to implementing programs that equitably serve diverse audiences inclusively and accessibly.

• Willingness to live out the FTS values at work: Courage, Empathy, Equity, Inclusion, and Inspired Creativity



EXPERIENCE:

• At least five years of experience in a theatre, performing arts or arts administration setting.

• Experience working with diverse student populations and communities of varied cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

• At least three years coordinating or managing staff and programs.

SALARY:

Approximately $58,000 to $61,000 per year
