Technical Designer/Draftsman Job Description
Since 1999, Konduit has been providing quality custom set construction services for TV, film, theater, print, retail, experiences, and beyond. We provide a broad range of services beyond base fabrication, including design rendering, technical build drawing, CNC routing, and professional installation/deinstallation. We are located in Long Island City, Queens in close proximity to most major photo and sound stage studios, with over 10,000 sq ft of shop space.
Konduit is seeking a Senior Technical Designer/ Draftsperson for a full-time, in-house position. This position offers benefits and paid time off. The salary range is 75k-95k annually, depending upon the given level of experience.
Position Overview/Qualifications
The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:
-Has at least 3-5 years of experience as a Draftsperson or Technical Designer serving the entertainment industry.
-Exhibits a thorough understanding of standard theatrical build, rigging, lighting and staging methods.
-Is proficient in several if not all of the following softwares; Autodesk Autocad, Autodesk Inventor, SAi Enroute, SketchUp, and Google Workspace.
-Has a familiarity with Adobe design software (a plus but not a necessity).
Can perform in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail, and flexibility in regards to evolving project needs.
Has experience with team and project management, and client interface.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
-Coordinating directly with project management and clients to find effective fabrication solutions for a variety of projects.
-Considering client expectations and overall creative desires along with budget, scheduling, and spatial limitations when finding final fabrication solutions.
-Creating dimensionally- accurate models of all build elements to be fabricated, and clearly communicating Konduit's scope of responsibility to the client prior to fabrication.
-Creating construction documents for each unit prior to fabrication for internal use.
-Projecting hardware, lumber, and other material needs for each unit. Communicate needs with project management, and ensure materials are ordered.
-Communicating design intent clearly with fabricators and other team members for production.
-Coordinating CNC workflows and managing CNC resources to meet multiple project requirements.
-Communicating and helping the CNC Operator maintain CAM tool libraries, postscript files & CAD files storage solutions.
-Clearly communicating project timelines and current project status with project managers
-Managing Junior Technical Designers to help foster best practices with design and construction documents/build methods.
