Chelsea Factory is looking to engage an entrepreneurial, energetic Head of Marketing and Community who will steward the organization's core outward-facing activity. Reporting to the Executive Director, this individual will be responsible for driving the organization’s communications strategy, executing marketing/PR campaigns, supporting fundraising efforts, and managing guest services and community relations.
In addition to guiding Chelsea Factory’s overall public presence, the Head of Marketing and Community will importantly help steward the philanthropic partnerships and earned income streams from event rentals required to sustain the organization’s presence as a leader in the performing arts. Primary responsibilities also include managing and collaborating with Chelsea Factory’s public relations, marketing, branding and design partners, as well as serving as liaison to the organization’s event rental agency.
A background in marketing at various levels, experience in relationship building with funders and corporate sponsors, and capacity to imagine and execute both traditional and entrepreneurial strategies is essential. The successful candidate will also have familiarity with audience development strategies, e-commerce, working with graphic designs, as well as digital and social media marketing. With a flexible mindset, the successful candidate will possess an aptitude and willingness to build new ideas in their concept and development phase and follow through with meticulous execution.
The Head of Marketing and Community will be both a team player and an effective team leader. They will have demonstrated an ability to effectively work with community partners and mobilize and inspire informal and formal direct reports. This individual must possess unflinching diplomacy in many different settings, including welcoming Chelsea Factory’s partners and audiences with warmth and care.

Job Responsibilities:
Organizational Leadership
- In collaboration with Executive Director, establish strategic goals for marketing, communications, and audience and community involvement at Chelsea Factory
- Establish and maintain active relationships with corporate, community and civic partners
- Grow and analyze data-driven research to help inform marketing initiatives
- In collaboration with Chelsea Factory leadership, design a guest care philosophy and related operational guidelines; ensure standards are consistently and effectively applied by Chelsea Factory team
- Help to uncover unmet needs of West Chelsea neighbors and collaborate with Programs Producer on responsive community events that align with Chelsea Factory’s mission and resources
Marketing and PR
- Drive execution of marketing and communications plan
- Cultivate and standardize a strong brand identity that is reflected across communication platforms
- Craft and edit marketing copy, promotional text, and all external facing language
- Advance Chelsea Factory’s efforts to reach and engage diverse audiences; develop relationships with key community leaders; devise ways to reduce barriers to entry to Chelsea Factory programming
- Collaborate with PR representative, website designer and maintenance teams, graphic designer, and marketing partners
Development
- Help conceive of, execute, and manage Chelsea Factory’s Annual Gala
- In partnership with leadership, develop and manage corporate sponsor pipeline; craft and execute pitch decks; steward relationships with existing corporate sponsors
- Liaise with Chelsea Factory’s third party rental agency and steward relationships of rental clients
- Enhance the audience and donor experience
Qualifications:
- A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
- 5+ years experience in a management position in communications and fundraising
- Demonstrated ability to direct and execute effective strategies and tactics for marketing, social and traditional media, and public relations
- Successful record of soliciting major gifts/partnerships/sponsorships, building and cultivating relationships, and leveraging a strong network of contacts
- Familiarity with audience development strategies, e-commerce/ticketing/CRM software, working with graphic designs, as well as digital and social media marketing
- A robust knowledge of the arts industry in New York City
- Excellent collaborator and communicator; High level of resilience and comfort managing stakeholders with unflinching generosity
- Exceptional writing, organizational, and problem-solving skills
