Description
The Head Carpenter works under the supervision of the AOTVA Production Manager, building and maintaining scenic elements based on each production’s specific needs. The AOTVA program is under the co-artistic direction of Renée Fleming and Patrick Summers. The upcoming season will utilize the AMFS orchestras, the 2,050 seat Benedict Music Tent, and Historic Wheeler Opera House throughout an encompassing 8-week summer season. This season’s mainstage productions will be Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel and Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro.
Responsibilities
Plan construction projects to utilize space, time, materials, and tools in an efficient manner.
Construct scenic pieces as assigned according to shop drawings.
Supervise project-based tasks to be fulfilled by the Scenic Carpenters.
Participate in the load-in, running, and strike of productions.
Adhere to the highest safety standards for the job site, the operation of tools and the operation of scenic pieces and theatrical equipment.
Maintain and organize shop equipment and tools.
Requirements
BA/BFA in Technical Theater with a concentration in scenic construction, required or equivalent professional experience.
A strong working knowledge of scenic tools, welding, and rigging is required.
Candidates must have sensitivity to the needs of staff, designers, guest artists, faculty, and student performers and a proven ability to work collaboratively with others.
Candidates must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and materials or, of greater weights in tandem with additional crew member assistance and be comfortable and confident climbing stairs and ladders.
Candidate must have a valid driver’s license. A DMV check will be conducted for the candidate hired.

Compensation
$17.00/hour plus housing provided by AMFS (valued at a minimum of $4.45/hour depending on location.) Overtime $25.50/hour
Benefits include AMFS season pass and paid sick time.

Hiring Timeline
