In our highly adaptable building on Manhattan’s west side, The Shed brings together established and emerging artists to create new work in fields ranging from pop to classical music, painting to digital media, theater to literature, and sculpture to dance. Job Description
The HR Generalist reports to the Chief People Officer and is responsible for proactively managing The Shed’s HR programs, procedures, and processes. We’re in search of a qualified and resourceful HR Generalist to support our HR department in ensuring smooth and efficient business operations. The HR Generalist will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities, helping us to plan and administer important functions, such as staffing, training and development, and compensation and benefits. At The Shed we understand that our work culture thrives when our staff thrive, and that starts by hiring the right HR professionals. This role has the unique opportunity to work across all departments, at all levels of leadership, and directly impact teams.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Responsible for managing HR core functional areas: benefit strategy and administration, including Annual Enrollment and Life Events; retirement plan administration; recruitment and onboarding; compliance administration; policy implementation; training and development; performance management.
● Oversee HRIS database administration and management; review and ensure accuracy of all data entry completed by HR Administration
● Oversee Unemployment Insurance process and communications with terminated employees
● Partner with Hiring Manager to recruit and on-board employees
● Support the CPO in ensuring the organization is in compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations
● Complete and process all year end compliance reports: ACA; FSA; 403(b), etc.
● Main point of contact for HR inquiries and employee requests, as needed
● Partner with the CPO on training initiatives related to HR policies and procedures
● Support in the administration of agency-wide performance appraisal programs
● Assess and make recommendations on HR policies; processes and procedures including HRIS management in effort to drive efficiencies and effectiveness
● Track and maintain HR metrics, and prepare reports as needed
● Perform other projects and HR duties as assigned
Qualifications and Qualities
● Five or more years of progressive HR experience
● Start-up/entrepreneurial drive and cultural arts institution experience is preferred
● Experience working with ADP HRIS and recruiting tools and systems as well as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
● Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding in dealing with sensitive employee issues
● A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a highly motivated, energetic team
● Attention to detail and ability to multitask and work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment is required
● Ability to manage and prioritize time, demonstrate pushback and a sense of urgency, and understand the value of providing impeccable customer service
● Strong understanding of local, state, and federal employment law and regulations
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
