MISSION:
Although HENRY BOX BROWN: A MUSICAL JOURNEY is not a “Children’s show” – and is comprised of a cast of top professionals under a TYA Contract with ACTORS EQUITY ASSOCIATION- it was originally commissioned and developed by the 22-year-old- Children’s Theater Company of New York (CTC), non-profit organization. As such, CTC’s mission and vision remain a critical core of our programmatic framework- as it affects our company culture or rehearsal culture. This Company is dedicated to diversity, equity, inclusion, and transparency in all of its practices. Both CTC and Henry Box Brown productions have a social-justice imperative at their core. Utilizing the power of theater as a tool for moral reasoning, and rooted in an anti-bias and empowerment curriculum, our productions and rehearsals include robust and interactive workshops for BOTH CAST AND CREW as well as audiences – who we view as protagonists in the community building and community healing process.
SEEKING:
We are seeking passionate, experienced Stage Managers and Assistant Stage Managers with a passion and profound interest in theater as a catalyst for social change through a collaborative process that includes engaging in a dialogue rooted in a social justice framework and allowing that to inform our relationship to each other in rehearsals and performances and ultimately in engaging audiences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• HBB stage manager must be a great communicator and collaborator with the cast and creative team.; the candidate must be extremely detail-oriented and organized..
Responsibilities will include:
• General setup and breakdown of rehearsal space
• Taking attendance and contacting late cast members
• Managing/organizing the backstage space
• Supervising the cast during rehearsals and backstage during performances
• Tracking blocking, choreography, and props
• Represent CTC & HBB mission throughout.
• collaborative planning of all rehearsal sessions
• maintain extremely organized daily reports and production status
•plan and Implement weekly production meetings and daily check in with the core team
COMPENSATION:
This is an AEA (membership not required) part-time salaried position paid through payroll, $476 per week with an additional hourly fee for non-rehearsal hours (or commensurate with experience) –
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•2 years of experience working in theater
•Demonstrated excellence in theater production
•College degree in the Arts or Education, or Equivalent Experience preferred
• Passion for inclusion and advocacy in the arts
•Effective writing, communication, and impeccable interpersonal skills
•Must be punctual, responsible, resilient, positive, and reliable
•Self-motivated, highly efficient, and able to problem-solve
•Proactive, hands-on approach, as well as a professional work ethic
TIME COMMITMENT:
REHEARSALS begin TUE MAY 18.
REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: TUE. WED. FRI. SAT. 11-6pm. Except for Memorial Day weekend. (TUE. WED. THU. FR)
PERFORMANCES. NYC-INVITED DRESS: June 8-12th
PENSACOLA TOURING DATES: Tue. June 14- Sun June 19
PRE PRODUCTION: May 9th. Or ASAP
