Electrician Open Call - The Public Theater

Electrician

The Public Theater was founded in 1954 on the principles that theater is an essential cultural force and that art and culture belong to everyone. The Public is seeking Electricians to join our over-hire team for both our downtown spaces at 425 Lafayette Street as well as our Free Shakespeare in the Park productions at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

Ideal candidates will have some level of experience with theatrical electrics work, but it is not a requirement.

Key Responsibilities:



• Perform hands on work for load-in, hang, focus, notes, and strike calls.

• Follow safe working practices on all projects.

• Assist with maintenance, organization, and cleaning of the theater, its light fixtures, and other equipment.

• As necessary, climb stairs, and lift objects in weight up to 50lbs.



Skills, Experiences and Qualifications:



• The Public is seeking Electricians of all skill levels. Previous experience is a plus. The below skills are examples of useful skills on our worksites:

o Basic equipment identification, knot tying, instrument hang, prep, focus, and knowledge of safe practices.

o Successful connector wiring, proficiency in focusing units, troubleshooting conventional units and circuiting, basic EOS family operation, and understanding of basic safe rigging practices.

o Ability to read and understand light plots and show paperwork, understanding of control system (network) diagrams, proficiency in complex practical wiring, understanding of LED tape wiring including decoders and PSU, and soldering skills.

o Knowledge of complex special effects and practicals, proficiency in troubleshooting intelligent lighting systems, proficient in EOS family console set-up (shell configurations, intelligent patching, etc), basic understanding of ML maintenance, and thorough understanding of networking systems.

• All skill levels must possess the ability to work safely, calmly, and efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.



Rates are $28-31/hr assuming some previous experience and dependent upon skill level at hire. The Public Theater is developing classes and training courses to assist with the advancement of skill level.



As a condition of employment, the Public will require that all employees who report to work on site (either at the Public Theater or any other workspace or performing location) be up to date on their vaccine series (including a booster). The Public will provide exceptions only for employees with an approved medical or religious exemption.
