POSITION OVERVIEW 

Two River Theater (TRT) seeks an experienced individual to fill the full-time position of Director of Operations. The Director of Operations is a member of the Senior Management team at Two River Theater. They report to and work directly with the Managing Director, and as a collaborative partner with the Production, Finance, Marketing, Education and Administration Departments. Primary responsibilities include oversight of the building maintenance, building systems and the overall properties. The Director of Operations leads a team of full and part-time employees.  

ABOUT TWO RIVER THEATER  

Two River Theater produces a theatrical season that includes American and world classics, new plays and musicals, programs for young people, and festivals of new work. Each year, we also offer 40+ events that reflect our diverse community of Red Bank, New Jersey. Two River produces work on two stages—the 350-seat Rechnitz Theater, and the flexible 110-seat Marion Huber Theater. The theater’s recently opened Center for New Work, Education and Design is a three-story facility that includes two rehearsal studios, artist labs, classrooms, expanded shops and centrally located offices. Two River Theater has commissioned and premiered original projects including Be More Chill by Tony Award nominee Joe Iconis and Joe Tracz (the theater’s first Broadway production) and Hurricane Diane by former Playwright-in-Residence Madeleine George (which won an Obie Award for its Off-Broadway run). In June 2019, Two River was nationally recognized by USA TODAY as one of “10 great places to see a play” across the U.S. Two River serves thousands of students and community members through arts and humanities programs at the theater, in schools and throughout its region.  Two River Theater is led by Artistic Director Justin Waldman and Managing Director Nora DeVeau-Rosen and was founded in 1994 by Joan and Robert Rechnitz.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS: 

FACILITY  

  • Oversee physical maintenance and facility operations of the theater building, grounds, and residential properties;  
  • Take a lead role in planning and execution of any construction and/or renovation project(s);  
  • Procurement of facility and janitorial supplies and equipment;  
  • Manage building system leases and contracts, third-party contractors and related budgets; and  
  • Work closely with the internal and external rentals and event-specific staff members to execute events.  
     

 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) 

  • Oversee the Theater’s IT systems, vendors, and office equipment;  
  • Manage and administer software and hardware; and  
  • Provide IT support for rentals and events.  

  

HEALTH & SAFETY  

  • Work closely with Administration and Front of House Manager to oversee and direct the activities of the TRT Safety & Emergency Preparedness Committee; and  
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, City, State and Federal requirements and laws, and state and local fire regulations.   

  

ADMINISTRATION  

  • Supervise, schedule, and train custodial and maintenance staff;  
  • Create and execute an annual facility budget, capital improvement project budgets, and life cycle cost analysis of the venues and its components;  
  • Work with the Managing Director and Director of Finance to develop and implement TRT’s financial strategy as it relates to capital budget planning;  
  • As a member of the senior management team, work closely with Executive Leadership on the development and maintenance of an institutional Strategic Plan;  
  • Manage facility drawings and records, inspection certificates, and other regulatory documents;  
  • Perform all work in a manner that is consistent with Two River’s core values, including our commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED7I), and contribute to the goal of creating a more equitable, diverse and inclusive organization by participating in various staff and organizational initiatives; and  
  • Provide leadership and logistical support for special projects as needed. 

 

 COMPETENCIES & SKILLS: 

  • Managing a mid to large scale (50,000+ sqft) facility, in addition to several residential properties and a parking structure;   
  • General knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing building systems;   
  • Construction and third-party contractor management;  
  • Managing informational technology for a nonprofit organization, with support from a third-party vendor;  
  • Managing the needs of a public assembly space;  
  • Interfacing with regulators and representatives on the topic of operational needs;  
  • Managing a dynamic staff, with at times unconventional scheduling needs due to performances and events; and  
  • Arts and culture facility operations a plus.  
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights, weekends and holidays.  

 

Annual Compensation: $80,000-$84,000. Benefits package includes medical, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, generous paid time off, an employee assistance program, local business discounts, and a 403 (b) retirement plan.
