DEPUTY MARKETING DIRECTOR
The Deputy Marketing Director manages the strategy, planning and implementation of multiple membership campaigns, single ticket promotions, advertising (print, digital, radio…), and pricing and revenue management to earn up to $7 million in sales annually. This position is integral to the planning for growing new audiences while retaining current audiences and helps lead the Marketing and Communications team to the forefront of digital (including a dynamic and engaging website) and new media marketing efforts. This role reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and supervises the Membership Manager, Digital Marketing Manager, Advertising Assistant, and Digital Marketing Assistant, as well as aspects of the Group Sales Coordinator position. The successful candidate will need to be: a) experienced in acquisition and retention marketing strategies; b) an expert in general marketing best practices (traditional and digital); c) a strategic thinker who understands the larger picture while paying attention to fine details; and d) a strong leader.
Areas of Responsibility:
Membership Campaigns and Single Ticket Promotions
Serve as campaign lead for all items related to membership and show promotions:
Collaborate with the full team in the development and distribution of content and communications across all channels (working within current show promotion budgets)
Efforts include website and email communications, developing direct mail and collateral plans, various promotional opportunities
Lead acquisition and retention strategies to build audiences and earned revenue, as well as community partnerships for audience development purposes to actively work toward healthy house counts for the duration of each production's run
Execute campaign strategy development for Mainstage memberships (Classic and Flex subscriptions for 5 to 8 productions each season) and Steppenwolf for Young Adults programs (2 productions and local tours), patron engagement and other areas as an active thought partner
Launch announcements and messaging around Mainstage Season, Steppenwolf Young Adults, LookOut Series, Visiting Artists Series, IDEA initiatives, Patron Communications (including On-Account notifications) and other institutional efforts as needed
Collaborate with Audience Services on house-scaling and zoned inventory parameters; assist with seating needs, subscription set-up, facility management, renewal orders and pricing types
Ensure the accuracy of marketing’s mailing and digital targeting lists (maintenance and management)
Monitor best practices around memberships in the field, including building community relationships
Manage Tessitura website and email integration for functionality around account management and ticket sales
Support website redevelopment process; finalize RFP and vendor vetting
Pricing and Revenue Management Strategy
Develop and lead membership and ticket pricing strategy as well as revenue management efforts
Actively monitor single ticket sales activity; run and share weekly sales reports with institution
Compile information as needed for leadership and/or the Board
Collaborate with marketing consultants and vendors on identifying opportunities for incremental pricing adjustments to maximize revenue potential
Provide analysis of sales trends, promotions, discounts and other specific initiatives
Reforecast projections based on sales patterns
Advise and support Audience Services in 3rd party strategy and inventory allotments
Paid Advertising
Plan and negotiate paid placements; maintain relationships with advertising representatives/ consultants
Collaborate with the creative team on promotional assets (show art and copy, membership and performance webpages, programs, print and digital graphics)
Generate and monitor promotional discount codes to track promotions
Manage relationship with STC’s digital marketing agency, Capacity Interactive
Pull lists and manage budget as needed; serve as lead on TRG List Trade database
Budget Development and Management
Approve marketing invoices and manage reconciliations (eReqs) processed through the finance system (MIP) and keep budget spreadsheets up to date
Organize, plan, build and manage marketing department budgets (revenue and expenditure)
In collaboration with Director of Marketing and Communications and marketing consultants, support reconciliations and end-of-year spending reporting efforts as needed; support budget building for FY23 if needed (spending and/or revenue)
Provide revenue forecasts in relations to season goals annually
Additional Leadership
Direct executional efforts for the department as needed
Provide overall leadership and support to the team
Manage direct reports' HR needs
Desired Qualifications:
Expertise in marketing, communications or related field
Awareness of new and emerging web, email, virtual streaming and/or analytics technologies
Creative enthusiasm and passion for digital content strategy and development
¬Able to communicate clearly about digital media to non-technical colleagues
Proactive, relationship-oriented and possesses strong interpersonal skills
Understands the big picture and pays strong attention to fine detail
Comfortable juggling multiple projects and demonstrates strong organizational skills
Familiarity with:
Website content management systems (CMS); experience with Episerver a plus
Email marketing platforms; experience with Wordfly a plus
Ticketing software and CRMs
Tessitura (a plus)
Survey platforms and data analysis
Basecamp, Asana or other project management tracking software

Compensation:
