Communications Manager - Primary Stages Company

LISTING INFORMATION

Primary Stages seeks a dynamic, energetic, and dedicated professional for the full-time position of Communications Manager for Primary Stages. The position will lead our marketing and communication initiatives, including marketing strategy, graphic design, social media management, eblasts, and more.

Major Responsibilities:

-Create and execute marketing and communications plans for our shows, events, and the Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA), in coordination with your supervisor.

-Create, design, and send all eblasts in EMMA.

-Design graphics and content for ESPA, events, and select productions’ needs.

-Liaise with the marketing team at 59E59 Theaters, where we are the resident Off-Broadway theater company, regarding marketing strategy and ticketing for our shows.

-Facilitate relationships with other companies for discount ticket initiatives, eblast trades, group sales, etc.

-Liaise with the Press Team and create copy for ads, programs, etc.

-Oversee all Primary Stages and ESPA social media, including creating a calendar and social strategy, creating content for Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (static posts and video), and listening/responding to the industry and community.

-Oversee our Blog, including sourcing and/or creating content.

-Capture content at events.

-Maintain and update our website as needed.



Desirable Attributes and Interests:

-An innovative administrator who can take initiative, be flexible, and work well independently and with a team.

-Graphic design experience/education, particularly with Photoshop and InDesign.

-Video editing experience is a plus. If you don’t have experience with video editing, must be willing to learn basic editing through iMovie or another platform of your choice.

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

-Effective time management skills.

-A collaborative spirit with excellent interpersonal skills.

-A passion for creating access and breaking down barriers within the industry, with a specific eye toward DEIJ initiatives and community outreach.

-Experience with NYC theater, Off-Broadway, and theater in general is preferred, but not required.

-Bachelor’s Degree, Associate’s Degree, or commensurate experience.

-Because we are working remotely for the foreseeable future, access to reliable internet and the ability to Zoom into meetings is a plus.



Physical Ability:

Work is performed primarily in a home office environment and is mainly sedentary in nature. The job will include talking, sitting, hearing, and repetitive movement associated with keyboarding. Occasional evening and weekend hours to support productions and institutional events, which happen virtually and on-site in Manhattan, are required.



Primary Stages is an Off-Broadway not-for-profit theater company dedicated to inspiring, supporting, producing, and sharing the art of playwriting. Since our founding in 1984, we have produced more than 135 new plays and have garnered numerous awards and nominations. We have developed and produced work by A.R. Gurney, Theresa Rebeck, Kate Hamill, Billy Porter, Charles Busch, Tanya Saracho, Sharon Washington, Horton Foote (including the Tony nominated Dividing the Estate), David Ives, Donald Margulies, Terrence McNally, and produced the original productions of In Transit (James Allen-Ford, Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Russ Kaplan, and Sara Wordsworth), which transferred to Broadway in 2016, and Danai Gurira and Nikkole Salter’s In the Continuum, which went on to tour the U.S., Africa, and Scotland.



Beyond our productions, Primary Stages supports playwrights and develops new works through commissions, workshops, readings, and our education, access, and training programs such as the Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA), the Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group, the Echoes Writers Group, Creative Access Grants, Creative Development Grants, Teenwrights, our Free Student Matinee Program, the Internship Program, TixTeen, PS35, and the Primary Stages Off-Broadway Oral History Project.



Primary Stages ESPA is a school for emerging and established playwrights, actors, and directors. We offer classes in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, and our faculty is made up of professional artists working in the field. Our focus is on nurturing, advocating, and honoring emerging artists by providing them developmental opportunities, space to write and rehearse, and a family of collaborators. Since our inception 13 years ago, we have been a home to over 3,000 artists.



COMPENSATION:

This is a full-time, exempt position, with a salary of $58,500.

*This position will be working remotely for the foreseeable future. Ideally candidates will be able to come to select events in Manhattan once we begin in-person productions in Spring 2022, though we welcome candidates from outside of NYC.
