ChristinaNoel & The Creature seeking: Advanced Contemporary Dancers with Vocal Abilities: requiring an extensive background in Modern, Ballet, Improvisation, floor work, partnering and Contact Improvisation. Comfort and confidence singing and vocalizing is also necessary. Our work is devised dance theater and made collaboratively.

ChristinaNoel & The Creature seeks artists for their 2024 season (February through February). The Creature, led by Artistic Director ChristinaNoel Reaves, is a Brooklyn-based experimental devised dance theater company. Comprised of dancers who are also musicians, the hybrid performance medium utilizes the dancers’ voices, bodies, and individual perspectives of the world.



Commitment includes:

- 6 to 9 hours of rehearsal each week (paid). Tentative schedule: Tuesdays (12:30-3:45pm); Fridays (12:30-3:45pm)

- rehearsal and performance commitment February 2024 - February 2025 season, which includes: 2-3 performance weekends, and potential to stay on for multiple seasons. Contracts will start immediately after the audition process.

ChristinaNoel is looking for highly technical dancers (trained in classical and contemporary forms) with the ability to sing and with experience in partnering and contact improvisation. Your ability to be vulnerable as an actor will be highly utilized. Rehearsals typically include: vocal warmup, rhythm music exercises, improv scenes, acting work, and rehearsing and generating highly physical material--a large amount of material is co-created and developed from improvisation.



ChristinaNoel leads a youth company, The Ephyras, whose dancers range in age 3–18. In addition to The Creature's independent, self-produced concerts, Creature artists cross-over working with The Ephyras from time to time.

Above all, ChristinaNoel is most interested in artists who are strong individual performers interested in experimental devised dance theater.



Compensation:

$15/hr for rehearsals

$25/hr for show weekend rehearsal/tech/performances

Voice training with ChristinaNoel and individual photo shoots with Creature photographer Aeric Meredith-Goujon

$25/hr for mentoring of youth ensemble (optional but highly encouraged)

$40/hr for lead teaching of youth ensemble (optional)

Free rehearsal hours for your own personal work in The Creature Space, our brand new beautiful dance studio with 1,100 sq ft, Geritt’s International sprung marley floor and 14ft ceilings.

Please send videos of one minute or less OR give us a cue point (videos can also be reels if you include time markers indicating which section we should watch).

*If selected, please prepare something you can sing a cappella at the audition. It can be an opera aria, a folk song, the Reading Rainbow theme--something that makes you feel like yourself. You will be required to sing alone--both as a solo and while moving.
