Apply to perform in our third annual Collab24 Devised Theatre Festival, a weeklong theatre festival in Chicago! This is an amazing opportunity for artists to showcase their talent, collaborate with other artists from varying specialties, and practice working creatively under pressure, but in a low-stakes environment in this Broadway World Award Nominated Festival!
The Collab24 Festival, produced by a collective of artists from a range of theatre organizations located across the country, is seeking artists of all disciplines and all skill levels to come together in Chicago to create, collaborate, commune, and celebrate! Up to five directors in the Chicago area will lead artists through an intensive process of creating a piece of theatre to be showcased at the end of the week.
In solidarity with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, instead of our usual hybrid format, this year's festival will be in-person in Chicago. We recognize the incomparable contributions of union film actors and screenwriters and demand that their hard work be compensated fairly.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, October 12, 2023, with opening ceremonies, in which groups are announced and introduced, and then heads immediately into rehearsals (which can be rehearsed in-person or online!) until Tuesday, October 17, with tech rehearsals from Wednesday, October 18 - Friday, October 20. Performances debut from Friday, October 20 - Sunday, October 22, and the festival concludes with a performer/director Q&A and awards ceremony on Sunday, October 22. Rehearsal times and locations are at the discretion of group members. The venue for performances is to be announced.
Over the course of the week, each group will have a maximum of 24 hours to devise a theatrical/performing arts creation of their own using prompts given by the producers, as well as their wits and talents.
Applications are due September 21, 2023.
Visit www.collab24.org for more information and to apply to participate in this year’s festivities!
Roles Available: Makers
Seeking an ensemble of performance artists (Makers) of all disciplines and all skill levels to come together to collaborate in creating a new theatrical performance piece. Makers will be placed into groups with a festival director at our opening ceremony. Over the course of the week, each group will have a maximum of 24 hours to devise a theatrical/performing arts creation of their own using prompts given by the producers, as well as their wits and talents. 5 performances will be held for live audiences at the end of the week followed by an awards ceremony celebrating the Makers achievements. No devising experience required.
What Does “24 Hours” Exactly Mean?
Although the Collab24 Devised Theatre Festival takes place over the course of a week, makers and directors are only expected to commit to up to 24 hours of total rehearsal time throughout that week. This format allows makers and directors to work around their schedules, meet during available times, and avoid burnout!
