Auditions: Jesus Christ Superstar - Dive In Productions

Dive In Productions is proud to present Jesus Christ Superstar running March 25th - April 10th at The Players’ Ring Theatre in Portsmouth, NH. A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life.

Rehearsals will begin at the top of the New Year in Portsmouth, NH with dates set based on cast availability. All performers will be compensated with a cut of ticket sales at the end of the production run.



Auditions will be held on Wednesday, December 8th at 6pm. Callbacks will be held on Saturday, December 11th at 10am and will include a dance call. All auditioning must sign up for an audition time. See Sign-up Link HERE:

If you are unable to attend in-person auditions, we will accept a video audition. Please email your video audition to diveintheatre@gmail.com by Wednesday, December 8th at 10PM. Late submissions will not be accepted. If you are called back, we do ask that you attend callbacks in person.

Those auditioning are asked to prepare two songs, around 30 seconds - 1 minute cuts: one song in a rock/folk genre (non-musical accepted/encouraged), and another that demonstrates your storytelling ability through song. Accompanist will be provided. Digital or printed sheet music accepted. If you do not have access to sheet music or printing capabilities, please contact us at diveintheatre@gmail.com and we will be happy to help.

We ask that those auditioning please wear a mask when not actively singing. All members of the production team in the room will be masked and are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

JESUS CHRIST - Titular role, leader of the 12 apostles.

JUDAS ISCARIOT - Our narrator. A conflicted disciple of Jesus Christ, Judas is driven by concern for the poor and fear of what Jesus’ growing fame could mean.

MARY MAGDALENE - A follower of Jesus Christ who finds themself in love with the “son of God.”

PETER - One of Jesus’ 12 apostles. Accused, and later betrays, Jesus.

SIMON ZEALOTES - One of Jesus’ 12 apostles. Urges Jesus to lead their followers to rebel against the Judean government.

CAIAPHAS - The high priest of Jerusalem.

KING HEROD - The King of Galilee.

PONTIOUS PILATE - Governor of Judea.

ANNAS - A fellow high priest at the side of Caiaphas.

ENSEMBLE - People of Judea, Apostles, etc.
Salary: Stipend (split of ticket sales)
