Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater - Head Electrician - Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is seeking an experienced Head Electrician for its upcoming 2023 Domestic and International tours. The Head Electrician will be responsible for implementing the lighting installation for all performances.

Prior experience in a similar position is required. Strong communication skills, time management, and interpersonal skills are necessary. The Head Electrician must demonstrate a self-starter, dynamic and dedicated work ethic. Willing and able to carry out duties as needed and required, to ensure a safe and positive environment for the dancers and crew. Must have the ability to adapt to a wide range of venue types and technical capabilities. Ensuring the highest quality of lighting possible, with the available resources.

This is a part-time position, as the production schedule requires. Alvin Ailey is a yellow card touring company.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Coordinate the tour lighting packages for all performances based on lighting plots, paperwork, and directive from company’s Lighting Director

• Coordinate and manage lighting equipment based on programming needs of each individual venue or performance

• Coordinate hang and focus of light plot with local crew, physically focusing lights as needed

• Supervise AAADT’s Assistant Electrician, over-hire prep electricians and all local lighting crews

• Develop and revise drawings and other paperwork of all production related items (e.g., lighting plots, line schedule, ground plans, elevations, sections, color change books, truck packs, channel/dimmer hookups, instrument schedules, rental shop orders) as needed

• Develop and supervise truck pack

• Manage lighting tour equipment and data with Lightwright lighting software

• Manage and maintain owned and rental equipment

• Develop and maintain important relationships with associated vendors and venues

• Develop and maintain high level of quality and aesthetic of repertory lighting designs

Required skills and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree and/or a minimum of four years of live theater, touring dance, concerts, and/or production experience

• Functional competencies in use and operation of production lighting equipment

• Must be comfortable hanging, circuiting, patching, and focusing lights

• Computer skills highly recommended: Mac OS X, Windows OS, MS Office, Dropbox, Vectorworks, Lightwright, ETC offline and console programming software, moving light programming knowledge, strong lighting networking knowledge

• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and adapt to workload and fast paced schedule

• Experience working in union and non-union environments

• Valid Passport and Drivers License
