Candidates must demonstrate active artistic practice and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: scenic, costume, lighting, sound, or digital media/projection. Williams College is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community. We strongly encourage candidates from under-represented identities, including women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others who will contribute to the diversification and enrichment of ideas and perspectives, to apply.

Additionally, the candidate is expected to participate actively in the curricular life of the Theatre Department and engage in service as a Williams College faculty member.
Williams Theatre Department is a vibrant liberal arts program focused on the global study of theatre and performance, housed in the multi-venue, state-of-the-art ’62 Center for Theatre & Dance. This position supports departmental pedagogical goals of integrating theory with practice and intellectual inquiry with creative endeavor. Successful applicants will be: hands-on designers with demonstrated expertise in the performing arts; fluent in current design practices; ready to work in traditional as well as site-specific or less conventional spaces; eager to collaborate with colleagues and production staff; and able to teach courses to students with varying skill-levels and experience. We seek forward-thinking candidates committed to developing innovative pedagogies and inclusive teaching practices designed for a diverse student body. As we remain dedicated to expanding the diversity of our global curriculum, we invite especially applicants whose research or artistic expertise resides in areas traditionally underrepresented in the field and/or industry of theatre. In addition, we seek candidates open to interdisciplinarity in the arts, as opportunities may exist for collaboration with other academic units and the Williams College Museum of Art. In their cover letter, candidates should refer to: their active artistic work in the field; their ability to contribute to a culture of theatre practice conducted in a liberal arts educational setting; and their approaches to advancing equity and inclusion in their classroom. Terminal degree (MFA or PhD) required in hand by July 1, 2025.
