Review: OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS at Habimah Theater Image

Sexual harassment, sexism and patriarchy - these are words and behaviors that we are finding out more and more are rooted in the society we live in. Six months ago, with the Harvey Weinstein media firestorm, a movement was borne - #Metoo - and many women have since joined the conversation.

The play "Operating Instructions" was written by Shirly Baitel Nativ three years ago, long before the #Metoo protest movement originated.

The play tells about a world of only men. Tziki places an order for a new product: 'woman' with instructions. This new product is a source of great uproar - the prime minister, the general and the senior scientist are each trying to claim ownership of this new toy.

The truth is, there had never been a better time than now to present this exact play!

I will begin and write about the play itself. Nativ wrote a biting satire that touches every man and woman sitting in the audience, giving us punches full of truth that we want anyway and prefer to deflect. And that's what fascinates in her writing.

The play is directed by Denise Shama in a wonderfully unique way. Shama did not neglect a single moment in the play, and makes sure the stage presence is particularly impressive of each of the actors. I also need to mention the excellent acting of Dorin Mendel‎‏ who plays the woman, and Tziki, who plays the lead roles in the play by Matti Atlas.

In conclusion, the play Operating Instructions are one of the most satirical and feminist satire plays in Israel right now.
