March 29, 2021 -
Late last week, New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio announced that his administration would "move heaven and earth" to ensure Broadway is able to reopen safely in the fall, the strongest sign yet that the government of New York does understand how important a role the entertainment industry plays to the city's economy. In city's of all sizes across the globe, that same data holds true - the cultural sector gets people out and about. It gets them to restaurants, to shopping districts, and paying for transportation to and from the theatre. It drives tourism, and generates the cultural hubbub that makes a place a vibrant place to live. As vaccine programs continue to improve despite a few hiccups along the way, we are truly moving towards the new normal.

California Offers Reopening Guidance
New guidance from the State of California gives performing arts venues a clearer picture of when they'll be able to start welcoming audiences once again - both indoor and outdoor. Standards are based on where a county is in the color-coded system the state has been using, and theatres will need to have completely cycled through the system before they can welcome audiences indoors.
AEA Plans Town Hall in Response to Petition from Members
Actors Equity Association has responded to the petition that was signed by more than 2,000 members last week demanding a town hall meeting where the membership could question the union's plan to get members back to work. While the date has not yet been set for this meeting, the union has responded that they do intend to hold such a meeting.
