BOY WITH A SUITCASE at Prithvi Theatre

Children's Play suitable for the ages 8 yrs & above

The play, Boy with a Suitcase, unfolds through the story-telling and narrative of the young protagonist Naz as he makes his way to the proverbial land of “milk and honey”, to find his sister and a “better life”.

As a young child, Naz was put on a bus by his parents and sent off on what would turn out to be a long and often treacherous journey away from his home and family. But on the way he is guided by his mother’s stories of Sinbad the Sailor. He meets the charming Krysia and together they make their way through desert and mountain, a sweat-shop, the ocean and finally reach their destination. But is it the “heaven on earth” of his sister’s postcard?

About the Group:
'Do I know U?' was an Indo-German theatre partnership (under the “Wanderlust” programme of the Federal Government of Germany) between Ranga Shankara, Bangalore and Schnawwl-National Theater Mannheim, Germany. In workshops, guest performances, exchange of artistic staff, think-tanks and the co-production ‘Boy with a Suitcase’, the artistes of the two theatres met over a period of three years (2008-11).

As the final highlight of the partnership, ‘Boy with a Suitcase’ was rehearsed in Bangalore and Mannheim, where it opened on 10 Apr ’11. The play then ran in Bangalore for a week in Jun ’11.

It has been invited this year by the Goethe-Institut to tour 4 cities in India as a project within the framework of “Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities”.
