Houston choreographers Teresa Chapman and Leslie Scates create a dance-theatre performance that takes a satiric look at feminine ideals and the current culture of dissatisfaction. The Convenient Woman examines absurdities spawned by pursuit of an unattainable archetype. Chapman and Scates take inspiration from the 1969 "how to" book The Way to Become the Sensuous Woman, (which offered helpful tips on sex and seduction for "the female who yearns to be all woman") and My Mommy Beautiful, an illustrated children's book that explains a mother's latest plastic surgery. With women still plagued by distortions of self-image and media-driven ideals, the culture of dissatisfaction continues to produce absurdities.
