The Mariana Trench at Theatre Ronin

The Mariana Trench is produced by Hong Kong based company, Theatre Ronin and directed by renowned theatre director and scenographer Mr. Tam Hung Man Alex. Alex’s works are composed by different theatrical elements which creates poetic imageries.

The story starts with a frustrated young man. A chance encounter reunites him with a girl he admired during his school years. The young man endeavours to recapture the lost years through this reconnection. The other half of the story revolves around a maidservant living in Hong Kong in the 60s. She admires the man downstairs who writes letters for others, known as the "letter guy".

The setting of these stories seems personal, but as the two narratives intertwine and reflect upon each other, they reveal the profound reality of loneliness of mankind. Regardless of the time and space, everyone must confront loneliness candidly, much like living at the bottom of the sea.
