After a successful series of performances on the Greek National Opera Alternative Stage at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center that enthused children and grown-ups alike, Nikos Kypourgos and Thomas Moschopoulos’ sparkling musical Silence, The King Is Listening travels to six cities across Greece.

The Ballet of the National Lyrical Stage successfully completes the 2021/22 season with the presentation of 3 ROOMS, on 18, 20, 21 and 22 May 2022 at the Stavros Niarchos Hall of ELS in KPISN.

The soprano Vasiliki Constantinou, the mezzo soprano Anoki von Arx, and the pianist Zara Bakhoudarian are to present a concert dedicated to the Stabat Mater sequence, a 13th-century Christian hymn to Mary. The piece, which portrays her suffering as Jesus Christ's mother during his crucifixion, will now take place at Technopolis 20, on Wednesday, April 27, at 7pm. The title comes from its first line, Stabat Mater dolorosa, which means 'the sorrowful mother was standing' and has been set to music by many Western composers, including Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, whose work is going to be presented. 

After its premiere on the Alternative Stage of the Greek National Opera, distinguished composer Alexandros Mouzas’ new music theatre work Shades in Hades, directed by Thomas Moschopoulos, comes on GNO TV.

As part of an ever-expanding outreach strategy, the Greek National Opera would like to announce its first major co-production with three leading North American opera houses: the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, the Canadian Opera Company, and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

The Greek National Opera (GNO) will present a revival of its 2012 production of Charles Gounod’s Faust with eight performances April 6 through 17. The production, which premiered in 2012 at Megaron–The Athens Concert Hall, will be presented at the Stavros Niarchos Hall for the first time, conducted by Pierre Dumoussaud and directed by Renato Zanella. 

With tickets for the production’s first seven performances selling out, the Greek National Opera has announced one additional date for Otello – 19 March 2022, at 19.30. Verdi’s masterpiece is conducted by Stathis Soulis, and directed, designed, and with lighting by Robert Wilson.

The Learning & Participation Department of the Greek National Opera invites adults with or without disabilities, who love performance arts and seek chances for artistic creation, to the experiential art workshops “Composition and Inclusion”.

Due to delays caused by the recent severe weather and its aftermath, the Greek National Opera has announced new performance dates for its upcoming Otello production.

The Learning and Participation Department of the Greek National Opera invites teenagers aged between 14 and 19 to participate in Co-OPERAtive: an intercultural and collaborative opera hub for young people. The educational programme Co-OPERAtive will offer a series of workshops led by distinguished artists from the fields of music, theatre, dance and opera to a group of 30 young people from different ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds.

In May, the National Theatre of Greece launched a free online pilot program developed by a team of experts to use singing to assist people suffering from breathlessness and stress. Thirty patients have benefitted from the program to date, and the goal is to support 100 people next year.

Greek National Opera has invited viewers to take a journey behind the scenes at the opera thanks to a dedicated Mezzo Backstage programme presented by Mezzo, the international opera and classical music channel.
