SEEKING

Equity actors for roles in freeFall Theatre's 2024-25 Season (See breakdown). Actors of any ethnicity and gender identity are encouraged to audition.

PREPARATION

FOR PLAYS: Please prepare two contrasting one-minute monologues OR one two-minute monologue. FOR MUSICALS: Please prepare a two-minute music selection in the style of one of our musicals OR two contrasting one-minute music cuts OR a one-minute music selection and a one-minute monologue. An accompanist will be provided. Bring sheet music in the correct key. All should bring a picture and resume, stapled together. If you are unable to attend these in-person auditions, you may submit a video submission. See breakdown for details.

KEN LUDWIG’S MORIARTY: A New Sherlock Holmes Adventure

SYNOPSIS: Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are back on the case! An investigation into the Bohemian king’s stolen letters cascades into an international mystery filled with spies, blackmail and intrigue. With world peace at stake, Holmes and Watson join forces with American actress Irene Adler to take down cunning criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty and his network of devious henchmen. Five actors play over 40 roles in this adventure that has more danger, more laughter, more romance, and more mystery than our smash hit production of Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville.

This show is cast. Currently seeking replacement actors only.

SHERLOCK HOLMES - ROLE IS CAST. (40s-50s, Male) Highly intelligent, confident, quick-witted, and obsessive. Lives to solve mysteries and discover the truth. Thinks very highly of his close friend Watson.

DR. WATSON - ROLE IS CAST. (40s-50s, Male) Smart, grounded, and full of heart. Doctor Watson is full of wonder. He lives to have adventures and assist their close friend Holmes.

TRACK ONE - ROLE IS CAST. (30s-40s, Male) Great versatility both physically and vocally. Doubles as multiple roles including Perkins, Otto Von Ormstein (King of Bohemia), Moriarty (suspected criminal, Holmes’s former mentor, and the reason he became a detective), Mrs. Gasner (sure of herself, respectable shop owner), Porter (always on the move, aggressive, rude), Conductor, Paddy Keys (best locksmith in the business, a lively criminal), Nefertiti (Holmes and Watson’s cat), Mycroft Holmes (Holmes’s brother, equally as brainy if not more than Sherlock), Lestrade (cockney police inspector), A rough with a bludgeon, Bartender (cockney).

TRACK TWO - ROLE IS CAST. (20s-30s, Female) Great versatility both physically and vocally. Doubles as multiple roles including Irene Adler (a beautiful American actress involved in an affair with the King of Bohemia), Mrs. Hudson (older, maternal housekeeper for Holmes), and Cartwright (scrappy Dickensian urchin boy).

TRACK THREE - ROLE IS CAST. (20s-30s, Female) Great versatility both physically and vocally. Doubles as multiple roles including Hacek (a henchman of Moriarty), Daisy (shy housekeeper for Holmes), Milker (scrappy Dickensian urchin boy), Vicar (loves crossword puzzles, a bit clueless), Mrs. Barabas (works with Moriarty, has a chip on her shoulder), Hilda Klebb (housekeeper at the Bohemian embassy, always has a scowl on her face), Toby (excellent tracker bloodhound dog), Cab Driver, Hans (local boy).

SYNOPSIS: From the writing team that brought us Assassins and Pacific Overtures – Road Show is based on the true story of the Mizner Brothers. From the Alaskan Gold Rush in the 1890s to the Florida real estate boom in the 1920s, Road Show is the story of men and women in late nineteenth century America, willing to take risks to grab their piece of the American Dream. Spanning 40 years, Addison and Wilson Mizner are constantly looking for the next way to strike it rich. This quest turns into a test of morality and judgment for the two brothers that will change their lives in unexpected ways.

Six versatile musical theatre performers of any ethnicity or gender who will double as the following roles as well as other supporting roles, including Poker Players; Miners; Business Partners; Reporters; Real Estate Customers; Boca Girls; Songwriters.

ADDISON MIZNER - The levelheaded brother living in the shadows of Wilson's schemes. A visionary artist with flair and guile. Cares for his mother. Not as prone to seizing the world as his brother. Easily influenced by his older brother. Male, 30 to 45. Vocal Range F3 - G5.

WILSON MIZNER - Handsome and charming. Always has a good time, but also lowlife con artist involved in a series of scams. Lives his life as one big, adventurous attempt to seize opportunity. The greedy, selfish brother to Addison. Male, 35 to 50. Vocal Range F3 - A5.

HOLLIS BESSEMER - An honest businessman who rejects the family business to build his dream of an artist colony. Partners with Addison to create an extremely successful real estate business and finally a fortune of his own. Sensitive. Loves Addison. Male, 25 to 30. Vocal range B3 - G5.

MAMA MIZNER - Mother to Addison and Wilson. Encourages her sons to follow opportunity by any means necessary. Coddles Wilson, whom she clearly favors, and ultimately loses him to his own greed. Depends on Addison to take care of her. Female, 60 to 65. Vocal range G3 - E5.

PAPA MIZNER - Father to Addison and Wilson. On his deathbed, he tells his sons to embrace the opportunities of the new world. Proud. Nostalgic. Male, 65 to 75. Vocal Range A3 - E5.

FOR CLOSURE! (World Premiere)

SYNOPSIS: In this farce set in a small Florida seaside town, Raven and Amanda are trying to keep the family real estate agency afloat in trying times. When a nefarious local politician threatens to bring even more disruption to their lives, they must join forces with the enigmatic psychic, Camille Chevalier Milk to expose the true nature of this threat to the town before it’s too late. This over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek romp is a hilarious and satirical look at the foibles and hypocrisies of modern life, set on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

THE HOUSE OF FUTURE MEMORY (World Premiere)

SYNOPSIS: The show will explore how technology and humans have interfaced and sometimes competed with each other in our past, present and into the future. Incorporating the hopes, dreams, and fears of the particular audience at each performance, this one-of-a-kind theatre piece will take the audience on a journey of discovery that changes from moment to moment and night to night. Interrogating the very nature of being, the familiar and the strange come together like a dream or a memory from a distant, or perhaps not-so-distant future. This show will involve elements of improvisation as well as various technical elements that will change from show to show. Performers should be comfortable using and performing with technology.

SEEKING:

Performers (6): Versatile and creative, any age, ethnicity or gender who are strong actors and singers. We are especially interested in performers with an interest and knowledge of literature, history, technology, science, or other areas and disciplines outside of music and theatre.
