BREAKDOWN
DIANA:
female, 50s, Caucasian. A sheltered suburban housewife whose experience of the fast-shifting world of the 60s has been filtered through her television screen and the opinions of her husband. Prone to Walter Mitty-esque flights of fancy. A very strong alto with a belt or mix to a D.
VOICE 1:
female, 40s, African American. To play multiple roles, but primarily Ruby, a hotel maid. Bold, strong and self-sufficient with a razor-sharp sense of humor. A survivor of the turbulent 60s. Strong alto.
VOICE 2:
female, 30s/40s, Caucasian. To play multiple roles, but primarily Joan, Diana’s best friend and bridge partner. Neighborhood royalty with a nose held firmly in the air and a thin veneer of suburban sophistication. Soprano / high alto.
VOICE 3:
male, 20s/30s, ethnically ambiguous. To play multiple roles, but primarily Daniel, a gentle, pot-smoking, shell-shocked Viet Nam war vet harboring a shallowly buried rage. Guitar-playing skills are essential. Baritenor.
