NOISES OFF Cast Breakdown
All roles should be read with a British accent:
Lloyd Dallas - Male Identified, late 30's to early 50's, open ethnicity. The harried, temperamental and sarcastic director of Nothing On . His love triangle with Poppy and Brooke creates complications for himself and the show. Must have extremely strong comedic instincts and timing.
Dotty Otley - Female Identified, 40s-50s, open ethnicity. A forgetful, but talented, former leading lady who is now a fading sitcom star and the principal investor in Nothing On, a farce in which she also plays the cockney, much put upon housekeeper, Mrs. Clackett. Must have extremely strong comedic instincts and timing.
Garry Lejeune - Male Identified, Late 20's - 30's, open ethnicity. Plays Roger Tramplemain in Nothing On. An easily flustered, self-absorbed actor, with a penchant for trailing off and ending his sentences with ...you know. Prone to jealous rage and in a relationship with the older Dotty. Must have extremely strong comedic instincts and timing as well as a knack for physical comedy.
Belinda Blair - Female Identified, 30's-40's, open ethnicity. Plays Flavia Brent in Nothing On. The sweet, sensible, cast-gossip. She loves to be in the know and loves to let everyone know how in the know she is. She likes to think of herself as the glue holding everyone together. Must have extremely strong comedic instincts and timing.
Frederick Fellowes - Male Identified, late 30's-late 40s, open ethnicity. Plays Philip Brent in Nothing On. A dim but overthinking actor with a heart of gold. Has an extreme fear of blood and violence - which cause frequent nosebleeds. Must have extremely strong comedic instincts and timing.
Selsdon Mowbray - Male Identified, 60's and older, open ethnicity. Plays the Burglar in Nothing On. An elderly, hard of hearing, Actor with a capital A. He has a storied career, a drinking problem, a penchant for missing entrances, forgetting lines, and disappearing entirely. Must have extremely strong comedic instincts and timing.
Brooke Ashton - Female Identified, early 20's - early 30s, open ethnicity. Plays Vicki in Nothing On. A beautiful, inexperienced and inflexible actress. Easily distracted and constantly in search of her contacts, which she is blind without. Must be comfortable wearing underwear on stage. Must have extremely strong comedic instincts and timing.
Tim Allgood - Male Identified, 20's-early 30's, open ethnicity. Nothing On's Company Stage Manager and all around Mr fix it. Constantly sleep deprived and overworked from managing too many jobs and crises. Must have extremely strong comedic instincts and timing
Poppy Norton-Taylor - Female Identified, 20s - early 30's, open ethnicity. The emotional, overly sensitive Assistant Stage Manager for Nothing On. Desperately trying her best to keep the disaster of a production from falling apart at the seams. One third of a Lloyd/Poppy/Brooke love triangle. Must have extremely strong comedic instincts and timing.
THE RECOMMENDATION Casting Breakdown
ISKINDER IODOUKU: (plays 18-30) Also known as Izzy. 1st generation middle class American. Mixed race; from an Ethiopian father and white, American mother. An intellectual, aspiring lawyer and a habitual stoner fighting his way to the upper class.
AARON FELDMAN: (plays 15-30) Upper class, white, privileged, from a wealthy family. The world is his oyster. He's going to be rich and successful and everyone knows it. Above all else Feldman wants to be liked.
DWIGHT BARNES : (plays 28 -36) Equal parts charming and menacing. Strong, charismatic and able to turn on a dime. He has a streak of violence, but just as important is his sense of humor. He is a hustler who wants to get ahead.
