Seeking:

Deloris Van Cartier:
African-American Female, 25-40. A disco diva wannabe with a dream of Donna Summer-esque glory. Mouthy, ballsy, brassy and quick on the quip. She has no faith in anything but herself. Needs a powerhouse disco diva voice with a huge range.

Mother Superior:
Caucasian Female, 45-65. An old school catholic mother superior with a spine of steel, a will of iron, and an acid tongue, but underneath a hidden heart. Strong, unwavering voice - alto or mezzo.

Sister Mary Robert:
Caucasian Female, 18-25. A young timid novitiate, She is torn whether to take her final vows or leave the convent to rejoin the world that intimidates her so. Her shy personality masks a huge, show stopping powerful singing voice. Sings a big Act II solo, “The Life I Never Led.” Needs a strong belt and legit voice.

Sister Mary Patrick:
Caucasian Female, 25-45. Upbeat, fun, and filled with love and delight in God, and friendship. She is the eternal optimist. She is always the head cheerleader ready for an adventure, a life experience, or between meal-time snack. Has a round, heavy physique. Strong comic. Needs a strong belt and legit voice.

Sister Mary Lazarus:
Caucasian Female, 50-70. Tough, full of vinegar and humor, with twice the energy of anyone half her age. She’s quick on the wisecracks and always ready to roll up her sleeves and dig in. Strong belt and legit a plus, but needs to be able to rap and be a great comic.

Monsignor O'Hara:
Caucasian Male, 55-65. Stately but benevolent, with an Irish twinkle. Strong character actor with a strong baritone voice.

Curtis:
African-American Male, 35-55. A super cool, super confident, smooth bad guy with soul. He is a tough narcissist with sex appeal, and charisma. He is elegant and dangerous. Needs extremely strong voice. Low baritone or high baritenor – a strong falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons).

Eddie Souther:
African-American Male, 25-45. A desk cop. He is charming and straight forward. He should have theatrical flair for the dream sequence when he imagines himself as hip and sexy. Has charm and must be appealing. Must have a beautiful high baritone or tenor.

TJ:
African-American Male, 20-46. Curtis’ nephew. An undersized, or oversized overeager young man. He is well-intended, but doesn’t always have the brain power to think ahead. Must have comic chops. Very strong tenor, with a strong disco falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons).

Joey:
Caucasian Male, 30-44. Big, burly, and fiercely loyal. He is the heavyset one of the trio. Joey fancies himself as a guy women cannot resist. Must have comic chops. Strong baritone, with a strong disco falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons).

Pablo:
Hispanic Male, 20-35. Curtis’ bodyguard who keeps mouthing off in Spanish. Must have comic chops. Strong baritone or tenor, with a strong disco falsetto (a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons).

Female Ensemble:
Characters are ages 18-64, All Ethnicities. Great singers and strong movers of all types, shapes and sizes. Should have style and the ability to play various characters- including nuns and blue collar Philadelphians – and understudy principal roles. Seeking women to play Sister Mary Martin-of Tours (an out-of-it nun who’s in her own little world); and Tina and Michelle (Deloris’s back-up singers; low-rent, but sexy, a la The Pointer Sisters, with sassy attitude); They need to move very well and cover the role of Deloris. There are two additional strong dancers among the female ensemble. All need very strong legit and belt voices.

Male Ensemble:
Characters are ages 18-64, All Ethnicities. Great singers (with disco falsetto, a la Bee Gees/Beach Boys/Four Seasons) and strong movers of all ethnic types, shapes and sizes. Should have style and the ability to play various small roles- including blue-collar Philadelphians- and understudy principal roles.

Seeking:

Riff:
Male, 25-30, A spritely, quick-tempered leader. He seeks to eliminate the Sharks and establish his own gang's dominance. Tony's best friend, he is eventually murdered by Bernardo.

Tony:
Male, 25-30, A romantic young man and former leader of the Jets, he has found a new lifestyle now. Tony finds himself violently torn between his friendships and love. Falls in love to Maria and meets an untimely death. Genuinely sweet and sincere.

Bernardo:
Male, 25-35, A proud, strong, handsome Puerto Rican man. Bernardo seeks to carve out territory as a sense of identity for he and his friends. Maria's brother and Anita's boyfriend. Leader of the Sharks.

Maria:
Female, 18-21, A hopeless romantic and innocent young girl. She falls in love with Tony and finds herself at the center of the violent conflict between the two gangs. Bernardo's sister. Puerto Rican.

Anita:
Female, 25-30, Feisty and assertive. She dispenses older sister advice to Maria and tries to shield her from the dangers of the gangs. Bernardo's girlfriend and Maria's friend. Puerto Rican.

Chino:
Male, 20-25, An angry and, at times, naive Shark who turns murderous and vengeful. Suitor to Maria and friend of Bernardo's.

Anybodys:
Female, 15-25, A spunky tomboy who is desperate to become a member of the Jets. The other Jets mock her for her ambitions, but generally appreciate her company. Full of energy and heart.

Doc:
Male, 60-75, The owner of the candy store where the Jets hang out. He tries to guide the Jets youthful angst and provides a safe haven for Tony. Old fashioned and wise in his ways.

Schrank:
Male, 40-55, A local police detective frustrated by the ongoing violence between the Jets and Sharks. Blunt, brash, and unapologetic.

Krupke:
Male, 30-60, The local beat cop. He has no patience for the gangs’ conflict and tries to keep tensions from erupting between them. Regularly mocked by the local gangs.

Ensemble: Jets, Sharks, Jets Girls, Sharks Girls

Nicely-nicely Johnson:
Male, 30-45, Just like his name suggests, he is the nicest and cheeriest of the gambling crooks. High-spirited and a bit naïve, but sincere and genuine. Nathan's loyal friend and lackey.

Benny Southstreet:
Male, 30-45, Nathan's right-hand man and a gambler himself. Smart, slick, always moving and shaking, but with what he thinks are Nathan's best interest at heart.

Sarah Brown:
Female, 20-30, A pretty, bright-eyed woman who serves as Sergeant of the local Mission. She fully believes in her worthy cause and wishes to convert the gambling sinners to saints. Falls unexpectedly in love with Sky along the way. She is prudish and uptight, but eventually lets go.

Arvide Abernathy:
Male, 50-65, The bass drum and cymbal player in the Mission band, he is Sarah's loving grandfather. Wise and sweet, he wants nothing but the best for her.

Harry The Horse:
Male, 35-55, A crook and gambler. He is a tough guy with dollar signs as his bottom line. Brings Big Jule into Nathan's craps game and backs his cheating, but is also a man of his word in the gambling community.

Lt. Brannigan:
Male, 40-55, A New York police officer who is on to Nathan's illegal craps games and is dead-set on catching him. A tough, no-nonsense character.

Nathan Detroit:
Male, 35-45, A good-hearted gambler and craps game organizer who could never hit the bigtime. He loves Adelaide, but cannot quit his gambling ways. A broke schemer with unwitting ways.

Miss Adelaide:
Female, 25-35, Nathan's fiancé and a lead performer at the Hot Box nightclub. She loves Nathan more than anything in the world and desperately wants to get married. Pretty, outspoken, stubborn.

Sky Masterson:
Male, 35-45, A high-stakes gambler whose luck never seems to run out, and a wild card who surprises himself when he falls in love with the unlikeliest of women. Suave, smart, handsome.

Big Jule:
Male, 30-50, A big time craps player from Chicago who uses a gun and his own pair of rigged dice to bully his way into never losing. Tough looking. A bit of an oaf.
