Equity chorus singers (Female characters) for Utah Shakespeare Festival's 2025 Season (See breakdown).

The only show with a chorus is A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER, but please note that we cast in repertory, and therefore all performers will be in more than one show.

All roles will be understudied.

SEEKING:

THE D’YSQUITH FAMILY (male-identifying, 30s – mid 50s). Vocal range: B2-F4. Skilled, Comedic, Superb grasp on British farce. Physical comedy and stamina. Is not necessarily a phenomenal singer but can carry a musical comedy without an ounce of hesitation. Doubles as the following range of characters from the same family, ranging from an off-kilter priest to a closeted bee enthusiast to a lowly custodian (each of them intrinsic “English types”):
Asquith D’Ysquith, Jr., a dandy
Lord Adlabert D’Ysquith, Eighth Earl of Highhurst
Reverend Lord Ezekiel D’Ysquith, a clergyman
Lord Adlabert D’Ysquith, Sr., an elderly banker
Henry D’Ysquith, a country squire
Lady Hyacinth D’Ysquith, a benefactress
Major Lord Bartholomew D’Ysquith, a bodybuilder
Lady Salome D’Ysquith Pumphrey, an actress
Chauncey D’Ysquith, a janitor.

MONTY NAVARRO (male-identifying, mid 20s-30s). Handsome and effortlessly charming, clever and charismatic, vulnerable and endearing, with a highly developed appreciation for life’s ironies. Monty is the engine of the plot; commands attention and draws the audience in. Discovers he is in line to become the Earl of Highhurst, and intends to kill off the family that stands in his way. While he is intent on killing off the entire family tree, he has a winning charm that would garner anybody’s trust. Excellent comedic timing, vocal variation, and physical skills. Vocal range: Legit Baritone. Bb2-Bb4 (w/strong head voice).

SIBELLA (female-identifying, 20s-mid 30s). Sexy, flirtatious, narcissistic, willful girl that Monty loves - calculating, and irresistible. A social climber, yes, but also truly loves Monty, and in the end would do anything to protect him. Tremendous wit and high style. Strong mover. Vocal range: Character mezzo, F#3 to F#5, belting not required.

PHOEBE (female-identifying, early 20s-early 30s). Beautiful, virtuous, forthright, romantic, comically earnest, with a backbone of steel. Monty’s young poised virtuous cousin (and potential wife). She is not your typical ingénue, though. Has a sense of irony and humor, in addition to a youthful innocence behind her sophistication. Vocal range: Coloratura soprano, range F#3 up to a high sustained C#6 with an optional high Eb6. Very flexible and agile. Also open to performers from a strong operatic background.

ENSEMBLE: PLEASE NOTE – The character assignments for each ensemble member are subject to change. Voice types: Legit soprano, Mezzo, Alto, Tenor, High/Low Baritones. All should have good to great movement/character physicality.

WOMAN #1: (female-identifying, 30s-40s). MISS SHINGLE, a Cockney housekeeper/governess who informs Monty that he indeed is a D’Ysquith. Storyteller. Also Doubles as Mourner; Tour Guide; Ancestral Portrait; Skater; Bridesmaid; Pub Owner's Wife; MRS. PEBWORTH; Phoebe's Maid; 3rd Newsboy; Tailor; Selina Chard (Servant); Flower Girl. Vocal range: D#3 to F#5.

WOMAN #2 (female-identifying, 30s-late 40s). LADY EUGENIA D'YSQUITH, an unhappily married countess. Overbearing and mean spirited at times, but comically so. Highly adept at the biting quip and the withering glare. Also Doubles as MISS HETHERINGTON and Flower Girl and 4TH NEWSBOY. Vocal range: Bb3-G5.

WOMAN #3 (female identifying, mid 20s-mid 30s). MISS BARLEY, an alluring artist model. Also Doubles as SIBELLA’S MAID, HYACINTH COLLEAGUE, PHOEBE’S MAID, HILDA. Vocal range: True soprano - Ab3-Db6.

MAN #1 (male-identifying, 20s-mid 30s). Appealing and attractive. TOM COPLEY (aka FARMER). Also Doubles as 2ND CLERK, HYACINTH COLLEAGUE, 2ND NEWSBOY, ACTOR, ANCESTRAL BUST, DR. PETTIBONE, and GUARD. Vocal range: High baritone with a strong top; solid F#2-G#4.

MAN #2 (male-identifying, early 30s-40s). A versatile and appealing character man. DETECTIVE PINCKEY, who has a featured number. Also Doubles as 1ST CLERK, PUB OWNER, MR. CROSS, 1ST NEWSBOY, 1ST ACTOR, PHYSICIAN, and 2ND ANCESTRAL BUST. Vocal range: Bass/Baritone, C#2 to G#4.

MAN #3 (male-identifying, mid 20s-40s). A character man. THE MAGISTRATE. Also Doubles as MR. GOODSALL, ACTOR, and MR. GORBY. THE MAGISTRATE has a featured number with DETECTIVE PINCKEY. Vocal range: True tenor. Ab2 – B4.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST

SEEKING:

a richly diverse cast that is representative of our contemporary world while staying true to the essence of the characters as envisioned by Wilde. Actors of all races, ethnicities and identities are encouraged to audition. Strong dialect/accent work required.

John/Jack Worthing (male-identifying, 20s-30s). English upper class. Accent. The protagonist of the play, Jack is leading a double life. Astute and reserved. Deeply passionate towards Gwendolyn and equally annoyed by Algy.

Algernon Moncrief (male-identifying, 20s-30s). English upper class. Accent. Algy is charming, clever and ever so witty. Also leads a double life as Bunbury. Comedic with strong physical presence.

Lady Bracknell (female-identifying, 40s and above). English upper class. Rich RP accent. Powerful matriarch. Deep command of the language needed.

Gwendolyn Fairfax (female-identifying, 20s-30s). English upper class. Accent. A model and arbiter of high fashion and society. She is sophisticated and pretentious.

Cecily Cardew (female-identifying, 20s). English upper class. Accent. She is both inquisitive and naïve, but always certain of moral boundaries and rules of society. Has a biting wit when paired off with Gwendolyn.

Miss Prism (female-identifying, 40s and above). English middle class. Accent. Holds a high moral character; secretly has feelings for Rev. Chasuble? A fun character who can play both dignity and soft sexuality.

Rev. Canon Chasuble (male-identifying, 40s and above). English middle class. Accent. He’s a nervous, serious but tender-hearted fellow. Also has secret feelings towards Miss Prism.

Merriman/Lane (male-identifying, 20s-50s). English working class. Accent. Butler and serving man to both Jack and Algy. Deep comedic skills willing to play any age with the driest of wit and humor.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS

All characters are female-identifying. All of them are witty, intelligent, and above all, real. Female-identifying actors of all races and ethnicities are encouraged to audition.

SEEKING:

Truvy Jones (mid-40s). Salon owner; mom of twin boys, one of which still lives above the garage; down to earth; hungry for romance (husband seems emotionally distant); knows everyone’s business; peacemaker.

Annelle Dupuy-Desoto (early 20s). New to town; beauty shop assistant; nervous, quirky, self-conscious; starts out shy and awkward, not wanting others to know her history, but then becomes a born-again Christian; obsessed with crafts.

Clairee Belcher (60s). Widow of the former Mayor; the wealthy old Grande Dame; a gossipmonger; Ouiser’s long-time best friend; sports fan; sarcastic; loves to laugh and poke fun. Trying to reinvent or redefine self now that her husband has passed.

Ouiser Boudreaux (60s). A wealthy, loveable curmudgeon; perhaps the richest in the group, though you wouldn’t know it to look at her; not interested in change or adventure. She likes things the way they have always been. Acerbic but loveable. Clairee’s long-time best friend.

M’Lynn Eatenton (50s). A therapist and Shelby’s mother; Socially prominent career woman; regal/upscale in the way she carries herself; keeps things close to the vest, over-protective, concerned for Shelby’s health and displeased with the choices Shelby makes.

Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie (mid-20s). Nurse; diabetic; M’Lynn’s daughter; the “prettiest girl in town”; fiercely independent. Has a complicated relationship with her mother; often rebels just for the sake of rebellion.
