Equity actors for roles in Undermain Theatre's 2023-24 Season (see breakdown).

Local Dallas actors are encouraged to audition.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a monologue from a classic or contemporary play of no more than 3 minutes in length. No self-written material, please. Also please bring your current headshot and resumé (8” x 10” and stapled, please). Members of Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) will be asked to present their membership card at auditions.

BONDAGE

Set on during pre-emancipation era, @ 1860 on a small island in the South. With the onset of puberty, Zuri, a house slave, must use her wits to outsmart the twisted desires of a drunken master and a sadistic mistress on a haunted plantation.

SEEKING:

ZURI - a slave of the house in her late teens or early twenties, African American or bi-racial. AZUCAR - 45 to 65. A slave of the house and governess, African American or bi-racial. EMILY - late teens, early twenties, only daughter of the master of the house, Caucasian. PHILLIP - 35 to 55, Master of the house and plantation. Father of Emily, Caucasian. RUBY - 40 to 60, sister of Phillip and aunt to Emily. Caucasian.

NO MAN’S LAND

Set in a house in London’s Hampstead Heath, in NO MAN’S LAND two men face each other over a drink. Do they know each other, or is each performing an elaborate character of recognition? Their ambiguity—and the comedy—intensify with the arrival of two younger men, the one ostensibly a manservant, the other a male secretary.

SEEKING:

Jane, Hester, and Peregrine work as maids in a 1900s manor, unable to say what they want to say, stealing moments away from work to hold time with each other they form a deadly love triangle.

THE PERSIANS

May 2nd - 26th, 202

Rehearsals begin April 2nd, 2024

Its focus is the Battle of Salamis, won by the Greeks against an overwhelming Persian force in 480 B.C., eight years before the plays premiere in 472 B.C. and also a battle in which Aeschylus himself fought. The Persians concentrates on the demise of the Persian empire, lamented by the Persian queen Atossa, by the folly of her son Xerxes which caused the empire's downfall. The play also includes the appearance of the ghost of Xerxes' father, Darius, who declaims the ruin of his once-great empire.

SEEKING:

CHAIRMAN - can be male or female, or non-binary - 35 to 55+, open to any ethnicity. GENERAL - Commander of the Persian army, male - 40 to 55, open to any ethnicity. ADMIRAL - Commander of the Persian navy, male - 40 to 55, open to any ethnicity. HERALD - a soldier reporting from the battle, male - 25 to 40, open to any ethnicity. ATOSSA - Queen of Persia, female, 35 to 55, open to any ethnicity.

DARIUS - former King of Persia who returns from the dead, male, 50 to 65, open to any ethnicity. XERXES - Current King of Persia, son of Darius, male or non-binary, 25 to 35, open to any ethnicity.
