Lilly Louise Jackson: (20s) Black. A go-getter. Former debate captain who is on the cusp of all current trends and yet can still put her foot in her mouth in social occasions. Truvy Jones: 40-year-old owner of a small town beauty shop. She knows everyone’s business and shares it with anyone who will listen. Southern Belle. She always has advice for you, and they often come in the form of country sayings.
M' Lynn Eatenton: 50-year-old mother of Shelby. She is overprotective at times and finds the need to have a firm grasp on the world at all times. She is a busy woman who worries too much for her age.
Annelle Dupuy-Desoto: (19-25) Very shy hairdresser. She goes from a very soft-spoken person to a bible-loving Christian with her heart on her sleeve.
Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie: Roughly 25-year-old diabetic young lady. Prettiest girl in town and loved by all. She has a weird relationship with her mother and often rebels just for the sake of rebellion.
Clairee Belcher: 60-year-old widow of the former mayor of Chinquapin. She is wealthy and also knows everyone’s business. She is the sarcastic member of the group. She loves to laugh and poke fun at the little things that others cry over. She is very close with Ouiser.
Ouiser Bourdeaux: 60-year-old. She is a wealthy old bitty. She is a loveably miserable lady, though. Her unique personality and sense of humor is a great relief in the serious scenes.

Tully: (Male, age 27-39) Smooth-talking, self-deprecating playboy. He's completely content with the life he's chosen as the singer/bartender at a tropical resort, until he meets Rachel, a vacationer who upends his heart. Guitar skills are useful.
Marley: (Female, age 40-49) No-nonsense and assertive with an island accent. She runs the resort and keeps everyone in check, but clearly cares about her employees, her customers, and J.D., an older island denizen. Great singer.
Rachel: (Female, age 27-33) Fully committed to her job and helping the world. Willing to put in as many hours of hard work as it takes and expects everyone else to do the same. Suspicious of fools and operators, Rachel is not easily distracted from her life plan.
J.D.: (Male, age 60-79) A funny, endearing older man who always has a parrot on his shoulder. He's losing his vision and his hearing, but won't acknowledge it. A good-natured drunkard, he's always writing his memoirs on bar napkins and, as it turns out, he's lived a full life.
Tammy: (Female, age 30-39) Loyal friend to Rachel. Sees the best in people and has a zest for life that is often squelched by her fiancé, Chad. Her low self-esteem manifests itself as denial in her own life.
